Veltec Sports announces price increase for Colnago, Sidi and Vredestein

Carson City, NV - Veltec Sports today announced an increase in the wholesale prices of the following European brands: Colnago, Sidi and Vredestein. Effective June 1, 2008, a 10% increase will go into effect in order to partially offset substantial increases in the cost of these products as a result of a steeply increased Euro/Dollar exchange rate.

Other than a very small price increase earlier this year, Veltec has kept its prices largely constant throughout the season, even though the US Dollar has devalued over 16% against the Euro during that period.

Just kidding James. I was just showing everyone what the bicycling industry is in for. Most mfg guys are saying 12 - 20% for '09. Ouch. They aren't done yet. I expect tires and tubes to continue to increase dramatically.

Just received a 12% increase on DT hubs too.

Rubber costs are way up so you're right on there.

Specialized, Shimano, Continental...all within the past few months. Strangely, some Campy prices have gone down.

No, I know you're kidding.
It's actually not an increase because stuff is costing more to make, though that is coming as well I think. Honestly, for us, a lot of it is the Euro thing. As we buy the vast majority of our items from Europe, we pay for them in Euros.

At the beginning of the season a US dollar was 1.35 or so Euros, now it's 1.6ish. That means that everything we buy costs us about 18% more, and we didn't raise the prices. That has really sucked.

Either way, if you want a Colnago, buy it in the next month!

The vagrants thing is more of a hobby...
