I saw this on my tear off calendar...

Dumb Moments in the Lives of Famous People...

"Here's a temper tantrum you have to be famous to throw: In 1987, CBS new anchor Dan Rather walked off the set of the CBS Evening News because the U.S. Open tennis tournamnet ran long. The network went black for six minutes when the tournamnet ended and Rather was nowhere to be found."

As some one on here said, he really is a cock knob. :stosh:

He was probably sick of people who would rather watch a tennis match then know what's going on in the world. Still, as a professional he should not act like that. Dan Rather was one of the last real journalists on TV, but the big machine ate even him.

He tried to report the news as it happened without all the sensationalism that you see now. He reportedly had some battles with network heads who wanted him to zing it up a bit, or not say this or that.
I know that some folks don't like him, and I don't know everything about the man's life so I can't say if he was a nice guy, a bitch, or a great journalist. He did try to report news though, not hyped up stories that may or may not be true. He tried to tell the truth. At least that's what I saw.

Except for the part when he reported outright lies in an attempt to sway an election.
Anyone who reports on a White House press conference is a liar by that standard.

Arguably he reported the truth, he just used a forged document to back it up. The White House never denied the content, they simply attacked the forged document. They didn't even say the contents were incorrect, just that it was forged. (IIRC)
