Logically, I would think that would hold true with many religious people as well. If a Xtian's soul is in heaven, what does that soul care about the vessel that carried it around separate from being in god's presence while on the Earth? This is something I've never understood.
It's a bastardized hold-over from Egypt...apparently not all African traditions are bad....go figure.

OMGF...I think this comes from the verse in the Bible that says something to the effect of "the dead in Christ will rise first" (in reference to Jesus' 2nd coming). I guess then the thinking would be that the body needed to be "whole" so that it could rise again when Christ comes back.

As an Xtian myself...I don't really care what happens to my body when I die. Put me in a pine box and let the worms eat me for all I care.

Sounds like zombies.

No, really though, that sort of doesn't work for people who have been dead for hundreds of years due to worms and other factors of degeneration. So, do you know what the answer to that is? I'm actually curious because it's something that I've never thought to ask about. Also, is it thought that there will be a physical rising and/or war (armageddon)? I tended to think that it would be more spiritual, hence the departure of people during the rapture. Is this something that is denomination specific?

I think heaven would be way more kick ass if it were full of half decomposed worm ridden corpses and stuff.

Indeed it does.

I'm not well learned on this but the doctrine/theory (whatever) goes that after the return of Christ, believers would have what is called "glorified" bodies. Kinda like Jesus after he rose from the dead....walking through walls, appearing and reappearing at will, etc. but still being a physical entity. If God is omnipotent I don't think that it matters what the state of ones body is in when this resurrection happens.

I think it is a Catholic "thing" about keeping the body whole etc....come to think of it when there is a suicide bombing in Israel I think there is a special group of rabbis that go to collect as much of the dead people parts as possible. I dunno then. It could be a hold-over from Judaism that I'm not aware. During the middle ages it was thought that by cutting off a persons head and burying it seperate from the body would keep that person from heaven. Weird. My belief is that it doesn't matter.

A literalist view of the Battle of Meggido/Armageddon would say that yes it will be a physical war. A case could be made that it is a spiritual battle as well. Rapture = crapture IMO. You are correct different denominations vary in their doctrines in this (and lots of others) regard.

Where's andyman? I'm sure he could explain much better than myself.

Thanks for the info. I'll also do some research on this when I get a chance.

As for Andyman, he hasn't been seen in quite a while. No one seems to know what happened to him.
