Birdwang came over today, and I had a new Chainring for him. He said somthing, and as a joke I threatened him. He then jokingly threatened me back with his "ninja star." That got us thinking, would it stick in a person, or bounce off them if you threw it really hard?

Yes, its late, and I'm up and excited because we are leaving for a race tomorrow :D

A new one you may be able to get it to stick.
first i wore it out so that the teeth were no longer very wide (see pic)

then I took a file to it and sharpened the teeth

I don't know about a 44t but I tried to get a 32t shimano aluminum ring to stick into cardboard and it's just too light... Maybe if you had a steel ring with some weight to it.

Some Moroccan ninjas killed Brett Tippie with a chainring in one of those HYSTERICAL and very relevant animated outtakes in Kranked 3: Search for the Holey Trail. It sunk in deep within the quite realistic computer animation...but that was a non-ramped 44t ring, I believe...so maybe yours is different.

I've seen a raceface middle ring stick in a wall, but you have to throw it just right, too fast and it ricochets, too slow and it doesn't insert far enough. I'm thinking a person would be much more forgiving on the velocity since they are nice and soft. It would also vary greatly as to which part of a person you were aiming at, a nice muscle would probably stick well. You'ld really have to whip it to make it stick in someone's head though. Cassette cogs on the other hand will stick in anything, I missed the open wall once with one of those and the sucker went through a picture frame and into the wall. You could easily give somebody a cassette cog hood ornament.

with enough force, it would stick. however, i think that would require a significant amount of force, and probably more than a human could generate. i would think that if an experiment were done, the statistical result would show that it would not stick.

i also do not believe that it would "bounce." i think the end result would be more of a "fall out." i think that a person could throw with enough force to cause the ring to break skin and sink in a fair amount. however, the depth of penetration would be too shallow to support the mass of the chain ring (not to mention the slippery nature of bleeding flesh). this is why i believe it would fall out, as opposed to bouncing. it would hit, penetrate, then fall out. no bouncing.

Exactly what I was thinking, I believe that was a Race Face chainring too... Funny thing is those Moroccan ninjas threw all sorts of other stuff too like hair picks and hatchets but Tippie dodged it all, he must have needed a new chainring so he decided he'd catch that one and put it on his bike.
