I find myself starting to use the ignore feature on useless newbies on this forum. I've got four on my list so far for constantly asking dumbass ambiguous questions such as "what is the best so-and-so product?" and for being total asshats to other members. I'm not going to point any fingers or report anyone to the moderators but I'm getting feed up with their crap. I know we were all newbies at one point. All I can recomend is pick up one of these magazines: Descent, Twenty Six, Mountain Bike, Mountain Bike Action, Mountain Biking, or Velo News and read it.

The DH forum is getting really bad "what is a good DH bike for big drops?" I think that was posted, as well as "post Brooklyn pics" when there was a sticky about Brooklyn porn right on top of the forum :mumble: . I said it once and I’ll say it again, we should not tolerate MTBR behavior, there are plenty of boards for people to go and ask frivolous questions, flame on monkeys.

Why ignore them? When you spare the rod(on the internet), you spoil the child. Better to correct and encourage them to moderate their behavior than have them continue to annoy all. At times it seems like running up the down escalator, but the fight is a good one. You may note that here, they have a fairly short half-life: either they get ignored and move on or they adapt and "grow to become productive members of the community". Anyways, why would you fumble an opportunity to be more honest with people than regular civil discourse allows?

Put whoever you want on your ignore list... but making a thread about it just seems like begging for attention...
Ditto that.

And while you may be right about reading some mags to get edumicated... a lot of people don't have the time or want to wait 6 months until a mag covers their particular question. The whole "what's the best bike for x dollars" is one thing, but asking for opinion on pedals or clipless shoes or saddles is different. Those things don't get good solid reviews/comparisons very often in main stream mags. I've been reading MBA for the better portion of 2 years now and I'm yet to see them do a head to head on things like tires, pedal, saddles, cranks, etc. The majority of their press (in terms of product reviews) goes to bikes and shocks, with the occasional article on forks.

Never mind the fact that most newbies probably don't know wher to find the info. If you don't want to answer their questions then don't, but at least tell them where they can find it. Otherwise they are just going to keep asking.

Give a man a fish or teach him how to fish?

The magazines are also for the most part owned by their advertisers and their content reflects that situation.

While opinion and experience posted on this board varies considerably in its quality, it's closer to riding reality than the falsies and makeup view presented by most print publications.

douglas - c'mon - post count don't mean squat other than poking keys - for a reference on this subject, see :stosh:. :D

I at one time was concerned with whether I was annoying or not. Now seeing the people that get annoyed, I could care less.

That's funny I actually used that yesterday with this guy that b!tches about this person at work. He complains about doing work for some one, but has yet to really show them how to take care of it.

Anyway, as a newbie, I've checked out a few magazines, but really never found what I was looking for. It's mostly advertising anyway. I have learned a great deal more from you monkeys, and I'd like to say Big Thanks :thumb:

Maybe you could implement, and mandatory reading only privilege for the first week or two of membership. That way they can't register, and immediately ask, what's the best ??? It sounds a little harsh, but maybe it would make others happy. ;)

Wow - no, never ignore. If something has already been posted about the topic before, just mention there is an old thread on it. We were all new at one time.

I hate all youz people with more posts than me. Can I purposely ignore those with post counts between 927 and 2,343? There's nothing more than I hate than those people.

Seriously though, this forum is still held together by the people who've been here for a couple years. The noobs deserve every chance to have a good time here like the rest of us--a little tolerance and patience can go a long way.

then ignore anything printed in mountain bike action or velovert.

edit: protip - use the search question before asking what is the best...

I generally stop reading a post as soon as I see words like "prolly", "dampening", "set of forks" (refering to 1 fork), etc.
