I have a 2002 Iron Horse SGS Team. When i get to really cooking downhill i notice quite a bit of rear wobble in the rear. It feels very unstable. I think it's from the 2 piece linkage. when pulling sideways on the wheel there is quite a bit of play. Is there a 1 piece linkage for my bike? also, as a side note i'm going to go 8" rotor on the rear, what do i need to get and where from. Thanks.

There was not an SGS Team for 02 so I suppose you have an 03.

As Luc points you to, e.thirteen makes a hop up kit for the 03 models that will stiffen up the rear end. It's a 3pc linkage (2 sides + cross brace) and a beefier swingarm.

For the 8" rotor you will need the rotor and a new brake adapter.

It's bright fricken yellow, what does that make it?
Anyone got pics of the 3pc linkage? The linkage i have is e13, but it definatly isn't stong enough, and no crossbrace(which is what i want to see where it is).

As stated above by Todd you have a 2003. If the current stock linkage says "e-thirteen" on it, you need the upgrade linkage which can be found here:

http://www.e13components.com/archives/000020.html

It is a mighty nice upgrade which will make your frame soooo much stiffer! :thumb:

You have the 03. The 04 e.thirteen linkage is a bit different. Check out the page and you'll see it.

Sh!t, 225bucks. I'm scraping up 50 bucks to be on the school race team, no way i'll come up with that much. That, and i need 8" rear rotor setup, and stiffer springs/drill out the small hole, in my boxxer. FUBAR.

it might not be your rear linkage. it might be the rear hub i know its got the 12 mm thru axel but just maybee the hub is ****ed up just another thought. a good way to see though is to remove the rear wheel and put the bike on a stand and see if the linkage wables if it does then its the linkage and you deffinatly need a new one. but that was my reaction to the new linkage so i dont plan to get it untill that thing falls off. and if that aint whats wrong then im sorry you had to read all that bull****. :thumb:

Don't think it's the rear hub, just had it off an true'd, don't think they checked the rear then though. It's a ringle, haven't had any problems with it, except it's loud.

As far as the money, im in college, and it costs 50 bucks to join the team here, and i'm having trouble coming up with that much. e.13 website said 225 for the linkage, so i'm screwed till next summer when i start working again, unless i work during my x-mas break.

I wouldent recommend the E13 linkage. I worked on an ironjunk bike a few days ago that had it and it was extremely sloppy. I even put new bearings in it and it still wobbled back and forth an insane amount. What the hell is up with those bikes??

Why don't you tell him about the 03 "fix" that works pretty well.

Jou, you need to call IronHorse Support or ask them IH guys here to fill you in on the fix. Its like a few nuts and some filing or something. Fill-in the poor College student already! Its good for the Company Rep.

The deal with the 03 IH SGS DH bikes is
1. they work pretty darn good.
2. the price for performance and component group is pretty much unmatched
3. oh yeah the price is good
4. but at this price you cannot expect the performance of a near $2000 frame

Get them to help you with the FIX.

I have ridden it with the fix and it is a huge improvemment.

Not sure what was up with the bike you worked on, but we've installed TONS of these things and they work great. I'm guessing you were working on the '03 which was when all we designed about that was the axel path. The '04 is stiffer than anything else I've seen on the market.

The 04 fix is definately superior to the 03 fix and that is why I would first recommend it. The 03 fix is definately cheaper, all it involves is labor.

Jou - for a quick, economical fix remove the lower shock thru pin and shave off approx 2mm. Re-install and voila...stiffer rear.

This fix is not as stiff as the 04 swingarm/linkage upgrade but will suffice if you have zero $ to spend. I'd rather see you have the cheap fix than none at all.

As JohnP pointed out, it was prolly an '03 model. This has been corrected for 04 (and for 05 :p). If an 04 model has 'slop' it is probably either 1. Manitou lower shock hardware 2. one of the first batch w/ long cross-brace bolts. New cross brace bolts can be obtained for these by calling Iron Horse Customer Service.

I am pretty sure he beats the absolute **** out of it. If everything is tight and has new bearings in there, why would it still be sloppy as absolute hell? I know I know I think it was a 2003..... or whatever that army green monstrosity was.
I just read that the 2003's had problems or something so I am extremely sorry that I mentioned anything bad about iron horsies.

Iron horse bikes rule dude brother man guy buddy. :thumb:
