12-20' surges in Galveston...damn. The water is up pretty high further South along the coast also. I think here in town we're going to get some 40-50mph gusts and 3-4" of rain but nothing serious.

Are you in H-town? Hope everything goes well.

Fly up here, I have beer provisions
well actually you were the first person i thought of. there werent any flights into redmond I guess i should have checked some of the bigger citys but i'm pretty sure they have or are about to shut down the airports.

Spero, where are you? I'm in the nw corner of the heights inside the loop near 610 and 290.

went out and people are freaking out. The gas stations have gotten gas but i'm pretty sure their going to run out again shortly. Food stocks werent that bad either.

No traffic problems like rita.

one of the weirdest things and the thing that's freaking people out, is that there hasnt been a drop of rain and several island citys are already flooded and this isnt even the storm surge. somebody mentioned on a news cast that they expect Galveston to be completely under water at the worst of the storm

Well, I'm in San Antonio so we'll only get the edge. I was down in Rockport on Tuesday night to board everything up because they were still predicting the storm to make a Corpus landfall.

I hear Galveston island will be permanently changed...then again, with every storm, all the islands get smaller in some places and larger in others.

We're two hundred miles inland and are under a tropical storm wind warning.:bonk:
That's the crazy thing...when the storm was expected to hit further south, they were saying S.A. was supposed to get 75-100mph wind gusts. Methinks that was BS.

gas is out again. almost a fist fight in the parking lot of the drug store over a parking spot but it was between 2 incredibly white middle class DINKS so it was mostly a lot of finger waggling, glaring and harrumphing. White people are awesome.
it's looking a little more serious than i thought so i bought an extra bottle of burbon.

Biggest cross I've ever seen was in TX.
Too little too late apparently.......

Is it bigger than this one?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Royal#The_Cross
The Cross

The first Mount Royal Cross the mountain was placed there in 1643 by Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, the founder of the city, in fulfillment of a vow he made to the Virgin Mary when praying to her to stop a disastrous flood. Today, the mountain is crowned by a 31.4 m (103 ft)-high illuminated cross, installed in 1924 by the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and now owned by the city. It was converted to fibre-optic light in 1992. The new system can turn the lights red, blue, or purple, the last of which is used as a sign of mourning between the death of the Pope and the election of the next. (This operation was previously accomplished by changing all the light bulbs.)
