"...for storage?"

I have the same conversation with my boss every 3-4 months when his outlook bogs down and ties up his machine.

For those of you in full-time tech support, good look with that drug abuse or alcoholism.

while I'm ranting...

So I redesigned our brand and as part of that, of course, I built a #10 envelope. Well, they didn't tell me they wanted window envelopes as well. Instead of telling me so I could move elements around to make it look good, they just shifted the plates on press to work around the window.

I just make it a habit of unplugging myself as much as possible when i'm not in the office, that helps a lot.
Oh, I don't answer my phone when work calls... ever.

The fvckers wanted me to bring my phone to Italy during my honeymoon.

would 7000 items in the deleted items folder cause a problem?

I think Outllook has a 1.5 gb limit per a given .pst file. After that, sh1t goes haywire.

That's what I was told anyway.

Close...

As in earlier versions of Outlook, Outlook 2003 Internet Message Access Protocol Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) accounts and HTTP accounts use .pst files that do not use the Unicode format. Therefore, the .pst files for IMAP or HTTP accounts in Outlook 2003 are limited to 2 GB. In Outlook 2007, the Internet Message Access Protocol Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) accounts and HTTP accounts do use Unicode format .pst files and are not limited to 2 GB.
You can edit them too:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925/

Unicode ones seem to work well up to the default 20GB limit.

So that's why the IT dude at my last job freaked when I was at 3.2 gb before I cleaned up the inbox. (Outllook 2003)

:D
Well its fine in 2003 if its Unicode. If its not you should have had issues starting at 2GB.

I have been the Mac Guy/AD over the years. Not so much now, but I did have a bitch boss get upset with me when I showed up to a client meeting all sweaty after her having me climb around in the ceiling for an hour and a half stringing ethernet cables.

This place was all glass walls so her and I could flip each other off from 5 offices away. She fired me 3 times!

So I'll just use this thread to bitch...

My boss, who overloads his email box, is trying to manipulate postal data. I got frustrated and said, "Why is the owner of this company wasting his time doing this?"

His reply, "Cuz the guys that are supposed to do it, can't and aren't interested in learning how."

WTF?

Fire their asses maybe??

We wouldn't let management near the postal/UPS/FedEx machines. They would invariably figure out a way to screw it up.

After one guy deleted the entire database of recipients, and one other guy canceled all the scheduled shipments that day, we enforced a quiet policy of stepping in front of anyone in management who moved in the direction of the mail room.

Co-worker: "I need to know how to send this via Fedex, will you show me how to set it up?"

Me: "No."

You wouldn't think that an extensive tutorial would be required.

I mean, there's a section labeled "Shipment Address" and a section labeled "Return Address" and a section with options about the shipment: 3 day, 2 day, signature required checkbox... And then there's a big button labeled "Ship!"

I mean, I know that's kind of a vague, nebulous concept but I'm sure with a little consideration and perhaps the help of a dictionary, you can stumble through it.

To me, any software that you NEED the manual or on-line help means that the software sucks.

Anyone who's moderately computer savvy and knowledgeable about what the software is supposed to do, should be able to intuitively figure it out without help... otherwise the software makers did a crap job.

Any graphic design or publishing software that I need a manual for gets deleted.

Picture a caveman throwing pebbles at the keyboard and you get an idea of the level of computer expertise in this office.

I bet the fvcktards here couldn't even shop for Geico.

I can top that. The other designer here was trying to help our VP of Sales unzip a presentation that we had emailed to him. When asked where he'd saved the zip file, the VP replies, "In the Recyle Bin". When asked why, he replied, "To save space on my hard drive".

I ain't making this up.

Today's rant...

So the blind leading the blind were digging around the boss' computer trying to transfer a file from one computer to another.

Either you know or you shouldn't fvck around with someone else's computer.

You should have handed them a screwdriver and suggested they just take the whole drive out. Tell them it's just like a floppy disk, only inside the computer - no need to shut it down first.

Take pictures.

awesome!

Thing is, and I chastised them about it, I AM the one who has to fix problems. If they fvcked something up, they'd walk away and then I'd spend the day trying to figure out what they did since the response would be, "just riding along".

So today's fvck up...

We called a Xerox specialist in to help our digital copier operator better run his copiers. One of the big issues was matching PMS colors.

I kept insisting that there are PMS color look up tables and to leave me alone.

It turns out that neither he nor the CSR (who's been in the business for 15 years) knew that there is PMS color swatches and PMS Process Built color swatches. Our machine has apparently been doing a decent job of matching PMS colors via a process build, but the idiots in my company didn't understand the difference between Spot and Process built.

Oh...dear....god....

That had to be a fun conversation...

Getting "trained" by the Xerox "trainers" is interesting too...I remember going to a one-on-one session with this chick who was the "Regional Training Specialist" for one of our new B&W machines...

Turns out I knew more about the machine and how to run a UI (Both I'd never seen before) than she did...That was a pleasent day.

Me: "Here's the source file I want to make tabs out of...how do I do it?"
Her: "Hmmm...well...you go here...then here... then here...oh wait...no...that's not it...here....then here...no..."
Me: (Takes the mouse) *click* *click* *click* *click* *click*
Machine: (Spits out tabs the way they should look)
Me: "Okay...next I want to do this........"
Wash, rinse, repeat....

Ugh.

Yesterday I worked with a sales rep in a client consultation. Client wants to design a CD case for their software project. I see the quote today and the sales rep pissed me off in two ways.

One, they're quoting an hour of design time. WTF? One hour for a CD case from scratch? Not only should we NOT be billing based on time, but rather on value, it'll take me several hours to come up with something unique that our client will be proud of.

Second, it was billed as "Typesetting". OMG, FVCK YOU!

How the hell can we sell marketing solutions if we can't market ourselves properly?

I have a meeting with my boss this afternoon to try to get this sh1t right.

At least I get to do maintenance on my bike in my office :D

So I come in this morning to see two of my four computers having issues. One Blue Screen of Death. The other just won't start.

I address the dead one first. I assume it's a powersupply issue, so I open it up on my desk to swap out the PS. My boss walks in and asks what's up. Then he begins to poke around the inside.

No, literally. He sticks his finger in the computer and starts POKING stuff. He POKES the CPU fan and says, "well, that's not running so it must be the problem."

WTF?

There's no PS in the case, so how could it be running to begin with?
