Man.....y'all can talk all the smack you want, but I can imagine adaptations of this thing being used for folks with disabilities and whatnot. I think it a great idea, and the manuverability is incredible. Can you imagine whole communities or small sections of citites using these things for transportation? Your local mailman's job never looked as cool before!!!! :D

Maybe I'm just that much of a dreamer/optimist....whatever. But I like it, and maybe once the technology stabilizes itself, the price could come down.

Remember.........they said the Honda RN01 wasn't going into production........now look. :thumb:

OK....now that thing blows my mind. just plain retarded cool. If you're a parapalegic and wanted to walk up Stone Mountain, Georgia or other scenic vistas you could never go to....with this thing you could see them!!!

Also, from the perspective of the military....a knobby tired version in the mountains of Afghanistan???(never mind...no 120volt outlets...except in the caves of course)

Looks like a Tioga DH saddle too ;)
That thing looks wicked, imagine kitting that thing with big fat tyres, and a bit of suspension travel, and doing trialsy stuff on it? :D

frankly I'm not too impressed...basically it's the bastard child of a segway and an ATV.

ok, you can wheelie it without the fear of flipping over (in most cases anyway) - which completely takes away the fun from wheelies in the first place.

it'd be somewhat interesting for 1,5 days.

I think that thing rocks - especially if you open your mind about the applications it could be used for like some of you guys already mentioned. Cool Stuff - way cooler than the original segway.

I also thought of the cons as soon as I finished it.

I originally pictured a person handicapped going places they never dreamed of before. Tehn I got this mental image of some Rush Limbaugh lardass poking past me up the ascent of some trail in Pisgah wearing a polo shirt and Sebagos! :mumble:

That and the Segway come from the same technology invented by Dean Kaman for one of his first projects which IS a high tech wheelchair for the disabled (ibot). CHeck out the spinoff company...

http://www.independencenow.com/ibot/index.html

Kamans design company is DEKA http://www.dekaresearch.com/

Very cool stuff!

That thing looks awesome. On the flip side, "Coming soon-silently-to wreck a nearby trail!!! THE SEGWAY!"

Exactly, personally I hope it cost 10k and is only avalible to disabled people or other that REALLY need it.

This thing sort of reminds me of something I saw in Pop Science last year. It looked sort of like a backwards office chair, with a rear wheel and two wheels that came out on struts to the side. (imagine sitting on an office chair, with your chest against the backrest and your feet set on pegs on the column...it's kind of hard to describe.)

As you leaned forward on the 'backrest' of the office chair, it tilted forward (flattening the vehicle and putting you prone, headfirst) and the electic motors accellerated. You could then turn the vehicle by leaning...the wheels were out to your sides with the rear wheel behing you. Taking pressure off the vehicle with your chest would slow you down. Looked like fun; was supposed to feel like flying over the ground. The problem, alas, was crashing...headfirst at speed.
