It's one of those quizzes to find your ideal candidate. They're fairly meaningless of course, but fun. This one is a bit better than most since you can use the slider to weight different issues.

http://www.isidewith.com/presidential-election-quiz?from=54421455

I get Jill Stein (95%) and Gary Johnson (87%). Not really a surprise. For the last couple years I've been half seriously describing myself as a socialist libertarian. Also no surprise, Obama and Romney are last on the list.

Former NM resident, so Johnson I knew. I'll have to read up more on Stein (obviously), but I'm not gonna pull a nader on Obama and wind up with the The Whitest Kids You Know as #1 and #2.

I got 95% Stein, 89% Obama, 72% Johnson, and it dropped off quickly after that.

Was this site sponsored by Jill Stein so people would know who she was

Thats a damn shame, when you cant vote for who you most want to, in order to keep the guy you least want out. Or something like that.
Personally I'm ok with voting for someone I agree with 83% of the time to keep the guy who I agree with only 9% of the time out of office. What we need is complete election reform, including eliminating the electoral college and instituting a "instant runoff" option. If your first choice isn't in the top 2 results, your second choice is then used (and then 3rd choice). So you could vote for:

1. Stein
2. Johnson
3. Obama

And if Stein and Johnson didn't make the final runoff, your vote would then be for Obama. It would actually encourage people to vote for 3rd party candidates as opposed to the current system which highly discourages 3rd party votes (with disastrous consequences, ie Nader).

I'm with you on everything but the first sentence.

on environmental, healthcare, and science issues
75% Mitt Romney
on foreign policy, social, economic, and healthcare issues
72% Gary Johnson
on environmental, healthcare, and science issues
54% Barack Obama
on foreign policy and economic issues
54% Colorado Voters
on foreign policy, environmental, economic, domestic policy, and healthcare issues.
54% American Voters
on foreign policy, environmental, economic, domestic policy, and healthcare issues.

I guess part of the problem is that I don't have 83 percent agreement with either Obama or Romney. So it would be more like voting for the 50 percent option to keep the less than 20 percent option out of office. That's not very desirable.

Generally I'm in favor of individual freedom, and having some things take care of by the government. As far as issues:
- I'm pro-choice, though on a personal level I tend to be pro-life. That's okay with both groups.
- I'm anti-capital punishment. Okay with both.
- I want out of Afghanistan. Okay with both.
- I want the US to dramatically decrease foreign intervention. Okay with both.
- I would like to see military spending cut dramatically. Okay with both.
- I'm in favor of the legalization of pot (and other drugs). Okay with both.
- I'm in favor of allowing gay marriage. Okay with both.
- I would like to see immigration opened up. Okay with both.
- I'm generally in favor of smaller government when possible. Okay with libertarians.
- I'm in favor of national healthcare, though not with the usual approach. Libertarians would probably not agree.
- I'm generally okay with gun laws the way they are, with the possibility of closing some loopholes. This probably falls in the middle between them.
- I think Ayn Rand was retarded.

Examples? SS/Medicare/Medicaid? National parks? EPA? FDA? Education? Veterans benefits?

Example? Single-payer? Obamacare? Hybrid with socialized medicine at the bottom, then private insurance for those who want to pay for it?

Just curious....

I was trying to figure out *which* position of Romney's you agreed with? The one he takes today, the one he took last week, the one he's going to take next week.....

:)
I'm actually not a huge fan of the man but I think it was probably the immigration and fiscal issues that set the numbers in place...many of the same issues Obama and I agreed with when he ran in '08...before he changed his mind mid-term.

Which "change his mind" would that be again? Deficit reduction?

By the way, was doing some research for some Facebook LULZ:

Pre-'05: Romney was pro-choice.

'07: Romney fully agreed with and supported the GOP's abortion platform (it's regarding the one from '04, but it's identical to the one adopted in '08 and again in '12) that outlaws abortion even in the case of rape and incest.

'11: Disagrees with the GOP's position on outlawing abortion in all cases because "it would create a constitutional crisis" in this country.

'12: Disagrees with the GOP's position because "he's always held the believe that abortion should be legal in cases of rape and incest".

*sigh* It's no wonder that he only granted his most recent interview based on the notion that they wouldn't ask him about his position on rape.......

I'm sure I can't be the only one whose brain went

over Mittens placing restrictions on what kinds of questions legitimate reporters could ask him, right? That's the sort of sh*t I might expect from some third world despot who doesn't want Mike Wallace asking about human rights or chemical weapons, not someone who's running for president of the United States for fvck sakes.

In that sense I can't even blame the media here. Because if the candidates aren't going to do interviews or answer questions, or talk about actual issues, and they're going to say the same thing at every campaign stop (and trust me, they do) there's nothing for the press to cover except when someone goes off that script.
tonight, in this dark hour, i like bill maher again

Sorry, I just saw this.

Smaller government - going with my other positions: downsize the military, but improve the care available for vets. Along with legalizing drugs and ending the war on drugs, downsize the police forces dedicated to that. Completely eliminate the TSA and hand that stuff back over to the airlines like was done before. Streamline the FDA (I have some experience dealing with them and they're incredibly inefficient, not to mention corrupt).

National healthcare - What I have in mind is a form of high deductible system where the deductible is based on income and dependents. Allow everyone to have an HSA so they can save pre-tax money for medical expenses. Make preventative care free.
