The woman I'm dating has a number of guys wanting to be with her... I don't blame them. So while I get to bike and hike with her, have each of us cook the other meals, spend quality time together  and just totally enjoy each others' company doing cool stuff... the other guys are so desperate that they escort her to her work functions *yawn*... take her to musicals -- this guy's gotta be gay... and do all the crap I'm supposed to do.

oh, brb... gonna go play the lotto :D

This random post has been brought to you by Opie... it's what's for crazy.

...but are these other guys long time friends of hers or what? I wouldn't mind my wife having guy friends(one of her oldest friends is a gay dude), but I think I'd draw the line at enduring suiters.

Oh, they want her... I'm too shallow to date a woman who's not attractive :D

Yup, they're *enduring* suiters... I'm confused, after a while, I'd have given up if I was them.

Thing is, I totally trust this woman. She tells me in advance that a guy wants to take her a musical*, that he's interested in her, she's not interested in him other than friends, but since he hasn't come out and said it or made a move, she doesn't feel the need to set him straight. Heh, she called me last night from the bathroom complaining that she's have a bad time.

* his sexuality is in question even by her

So while they want to bang her -- don't blame 'em -- I so don't care. Besides, who could compete with me?

I actually meant "enduring suitors" as in your tolerating their entreaties. Interesting how your interpretation also works.

You probably have nothing to worry about but I'm of the "trust yet verify" mindset, having been burned before by my own blind acceptance and persuasive penis.

Regarding faithfulness, always bear in mind that the most convincing lies are the ones wrapped in a shimmering veil of truth.

Enduring suitors are not a problem when everything is going well, but imagine if you have a fight. She just may be pissed of and scr*w the hell out of some lucky end*ring suitor, just because he is around.

I hear ya. My ex-wife cheated on me when we were seperated, but supposedly trying to work on our marriage. However, I made a conscious decision that once I've given my trust, it's a done deal and I'll not reconsider unless there's definitive evidence otherwise. That philosophy is more for me than her. I just prefer living that way.

That's fine... as long as she ends it. If she could do that over a fight, no matter how serious, then there's no relationship... simple goodbye.

Having opportunities is a great way to continue proving to yourself that your relationship is solid. It's easy to be faithful when you're an ugly pig and in a brick home.

Do a google image search for "degloved finger."

You're a doctor, so I image it won't freak you out.

no need to gis that -- i've seen it. in fact last week i scrubbed in on a case of a dude with 4 degloved fingers. we revised his "mitten" skin flap. industrial accident involving some sort of giant planer.

are you implying that rings in general are a bad idea?

I'm implying that getting married is a bad idea. The rings are just a bad symptom, not the disease :D

I think diamonds are, but watch an American chick gush over her new 1 carat and bring up blood diamonds, and I'm the bad guy...

:bonk:
i'm with you, but unfortunately it wasn't a choice with me and the girl. we discussed blood diamonds and all, how it's a social construct, etc. but in the end she still wanted one (albeit a quite modest one). i settled for one that has conflict-free paperwork, for whatever that's worth*.

* not much since it still feeds into the global demand, i realize.

:disgust:

I have heard there's a Canadian company that specializes in blood-free diamonds if you really "need" to take that route. If I got married a fourth time, I'd go tats or vials of blood around the neck, matching Yeti 575's, etc., but never another diamond.

Otherwise, I may have a few lying about. What's her ring size?

oh, i bought the ring months ago, asked her, the date's set, etc. ee robbins + modest "conflict-free" diamond + platinum band. still need a wedding band but that's a different issue and will not involve diamonds (i don't think?!).

And a "conflict-free" marriage will soon follow...

I do wish you the best young man, but also suggest waiting on dedicating yourself to one woman.

You're a smart man, but brace yourself for the future, as it comes at you really fukkin fast and many things happen while you're busy working...

Just sayin'.

If you're looking for something a little different in the wedding band category, I recently saw wedding bands made from meteorites. Might be sort of cool to have a ring w/ a backstory. Talk about "Taking the Plunge."

The store I saw them in was up in Portsmouth, NH, but they must be on the intertubes or elsewhere as well. They had more standard type gold/platinum wedding bands as well as carbon fiber, titanium, etc. Anyway, thought it was sorta neat. Congrats on your engagement.

i do appreciate the advice, and from a population standpoint it really is a crapshoot. but i think both of us are going into this with the best of intentions and with no huge skeletons in the closet (at least that i know of!) -- and that's all i can really ask for.
