I'm thinking of buying the iPhone of bikes

I walked in the local shop to see what bikes are looking like these days. I was sorta looking for something that I could ride around town, and sorta looking for something that could do some light duty in the dirt. I figured I'd need to pick one or the other, or go CX. I stumbled across this for $900 on close-out, the Fisher Sawyer.

It strikes me as the iPhone of bikes since it isn't a value, performance, or feature champ in anyone's eyes, but I still want it for some unknown reason. It is a heavy cromo rigid 29er with a singlespeed dropout option and a wacky handlebar.

Anyone have experience with this beast?

man, I want one. One just sold on ebay for $860 shipped, so it's a pretty good deal. Supposedly they are very good bikes, just like you said, not ultra light or fancy. They have a split dropout so you can run a belt drive, so I really want one (woody has like 400 pre-gates belts).

I say do it, if you want a bike that can do a lot and will always have fair resale value
