Last Call for IMBA Trails School. Cool stuff to be learned and good work to be had. We'll be rehabilitating the bottom section of El Polo for the work session putting all the new skills everyone learns to good use. See below for details.

For Immediate Release:

The internationally renowned IMBA Trail Care Crew will visit Bellingham, WA from July 28th-July 31st. Nat and Rachael Lopes will come to Bellingham to share their wealth of knowledge and trail building talents. The WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition is proud to bring the crew to our region. The co-sponsorship with Bellingham Parks and Recreation and Whatcom County Parks and Recreation.

The Trail Care Crew/School visit is open to land manager and the public and anyone curious about building trails.

Schedule:

Friday 7/29/05: 9:00am-1:00pm-Land Manager Trail School-Open to Land Managers and employees only.
Location: Fairhaven Park Pavilion, Fairhaven Park of of Chuckanut Drive, Bellingham, WA

Who should attend? Any land managers, parks operations staff and planning staff. The School will encompass appropriate trail building techniques, Risk Management Assessment, Reducing User Conflict through trail design, Environmentally sound building techniques and more.

2:00-4:00 Land Manager Walk and ride abouts. WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition Members will lead land manager on both hikes and rides to highlight some of the work we have done in the area and provide good examples of what was learned in class room.

5:00pm-Group Rides open to the public-WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition Members will lead group rides on Galbraith Mountain showcasing the vast network of trails they have worked on over 15 years.

Saturday 7/30/05 : 9:00-1:00pm-Public Trail School Day
Location: Whatcom County Senior Center-Main Auditorium-315 Halleck Street, Bellingham, WA 98225

Who Should attend: Anyone interested in learning about trail building and/or polishing their skills. The School will encompass appropriate trail building techniques, Risk Management Assessment, Reducing User Conflict through trail design, Environmentally sound building techniques and more.

Cost: Free to WHIMPs Member
$15.00 donation requested for non-members

3:00-6:00pm Group Rides led by the WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition. We will highlight the trails on Galbraith Mountain. Discussion of different trails their positive and negatives and how they can improve.

Sunday 7/31/05: 9:00-3:00-In the Field Trail work Day. This is the fun time you'll get to put the skills you have learned to the test. An after work party BBQ will be hosted by the WHIMPs and sponsored by Kona Bicycle Company. Free to all trail workers.

Departure locations of group rides will be announced once we have an idea of how many attendees and what riding levels we will need to accommodate.
