After his speech, Bentley said he did not mean to insult anyone.

Of course not. The Jews are still going to burn in hell for all eternity, however. Tortured for all time by a loving God. You think Jesus does the torture personally, like an old school despot, or does he have underlings do it like the great historic monsters of the 20th century?

I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said.
How is this not possible in Alabama? They are all related.

ronald reagan fvcks them in the ass with a strap on while reciting the lines from all his movies.
It's like a glimpse into the mind of Ted Haggard...

Pre or post-Alzheimer's Ronnie? Post, you know he's not going to remember his lines and probably take a dump on you. For some people that would be a selling feature, I suppose.

"Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother," Bentley said.
if this is false, then perhaps the terms brother & sister have no meaning

while in poor taste & politically incorrect, i don't necessarily see his remarks as being false. perhaps my take on this is b/c i'm currently reading the aptly named book: radical, which also has some very uncomfortable things to say

Why would I want to be a brother to a man who believes that I deserve to be tortured for eternity because I won't bow down to an invisible man who is actually three dudes, one a son, and one with super duper invisibility?

I imagine in North Korea there really are people who believe that Kim Jong Dickhole shot 38 under par the first time he played a round of golf. I also imagine they spend a lot of time trying to convince the poor sap who knows a little about the outside world that this is actually true and that they NEED to believe this for the glory of the leader. That doesn't make it so.

I'm not sure what David Platt says in that book (Amazon wouldn't pull up here at work), but I'll have to look into that.

One book that really was an eye opener for me was "Jesus wants to save Christians" by Rob Bell and Don Goldern. One of the points he makes is the comparison to the Roman Empire and the United States. Israel was invaded by the world's superpower at the time and Jesus openly challenged that. Fast forward to today, and the world's superpower has invaded a Middle Eastern country. In the light of understanding that God (according to the author) liberates those being oppressed, and stands against the injustice of empires. The authors go on to assert that the United States is the latest in a long line of oppresive empires, from Egypt, to Babylon to Rome. It does a pretty good job of bursting the typical American Christian's bubble.
