don't get a tattoo that doesn't have personal and special meaning to you. I mean, unless you want to be like everyone else? NTTAWWT :)

where do you want to have the tattoo placed on your body? And what other things are you passionate about? for example are you passionate about your ethnicity or heritage or another sport?

What about putting something inside of a chainring or something along those lines?

Or if you were irish you could do a trinity knot and insert images of cycling, climbing and snowboarding inside the interwoven knots. That would look kinda cool.

Get an "M" on each cheek of your butt. So when you bend over it says "MOM" If you bend over upside down it says "WOW"

I saw a picture a long time ago of someone who had a Campy rear derailluer tattooed on his calf - it was super cool - I think that the key would be to find 1) A bike part that is already timeless (who would want a Girvin Flexstem tattoo?) & 2) A very good artist - this idea would probably end up pretty ghetto it the artist could not make it look as real as possible.

This get's my vote!

No really pic something that has some personal meaning for you. Something that tells the story of your life, not just a butterfly or something as original as that.

I'd also pic the spot first, then the design.

I'm working on something right now, it might take while. Illustrator work takes time ;) especially with a wheel!

If it doesn't mean anything to you you'll never appreciate it fully.

Find an artist that does a lot of original work and tell him/her what you like... see what they come up with.

Pick an artist that does things similar to what you are looking for. In other words, if you are doing a bike part, find a person who does mechanical items (engines, motorcycles, cars, etc). If you’re thinking a scene, pick someone who does landscapes. If you want Lance's face on your _____, find someone that does portraits. Etc etc etc.

My buddy in high school did some really unique and cool things with bugs, and I love spiders… so I had him draw some stuff up. He made an awesome sketch and I told him to go for it!

The only problem is a professional will make you pay for the sketches… so do your homework. i.e. look at his/her flash, books, and sketches. Plus sit down and talk with the person for awhile… if he/she isn’t totally cool, do you really want them injecting ink under your skin?

BTW - the guy who did mine used to work out of RI, but since they made it legal in MA I think he was looking ot move back to the Quincy/Boston area.

If you're back that way I can try and find out where he is now... he does some F'ing awesome stuff!

get a tatoo of the little guy from Fantasy Island....what was his name...hmmm....

....or I like the idea of chainring marks on the inside of your right calf....I have enough scars there to justify a tatoo now

Listen to Slugman. Getting a random tattoo that has no personal meaning just to have one is not a good idea. Find something that you like, hopefully something that symbolizes more than just biking on a personal level.

Check out the galleries at http://www.bmezine.com/ for inspiration, and flash at local parlors, but definitely don't copy someone else's tattoo or get plain flash.

I'm getting my first bike-related tattoo next week. I've been tweaking the design on and off for several years, and I'm finally happy with it.

One of the best and most original tattoos I've ever seen was a portrait of Ronald McDonald with burgers, fries, shakes and stars floating around his head. When I asked the artist why someone would want that, he said it was a friend of his that was pissed that McDonalds tries to pull the wool over everyones eyes with new Ronald McDonald's...he prefered the old skool Ronald, so he got it tattooed on his arm. Tattoo is f'n hysterical. Certainly original!

Now to be serious, my wife is an artist and she sketched out the design I have on my arm. I told her I wanted something to remind me of home. So it kinda looks like the sun setting on the ocean, but kinda tribalish.

Find someone you know who can draw and tell them what your looking for. Couldn't hurt.
