What?????

*probably the only bike porn I'll ever submit. I can't afford a King hub, but I'm still running their headset I bought back in '99.

that's why we drink it here
Nice, I was told how the King hubs worked a long time ago, always wanted to see it up close. No wonder they sound like a swarm of angry bees. So many little teeth all jiving at the same time.

hmmm i had always been under the impression that king hubs worked solely on the labor of miniscule gnomes. this reality has now been shattered.

Oof. That's one grimey hub/bearings/drive. I tore mine down for the first time this early spring. I don't have the King tool to totally disassemble the ringdrive though. Used the alternative can of WD-40 to clean out. I should get the tool soon...Awesome pics.

Save it for now, we haven't seen the hub back together yet.....
it's already out on the trail. i'm going to tear down my new-ish hubs (received in May) because i want to know what King uses stock in their bearings. i'm getting conflicting answers from super reliable sources, including King. but i'll snap pics of the rebuilding process at that time. it's all fairly simple...

NDS seal
NDS bearing
spring retainer plate
spring
'narrow' drive ring
RD lube on teeth
other half of ring drive
drive bearing seal
driveside bearing

in the freehub body, it's -

bearing seal
freehub bearing
spacer thing
needle race
needle bearing
capture place
retainer thingie torqued to 100in/lbs.

Nice pics. I have taken mine apart and it is amazing to see how simple and well made it is.

wow. never seen inside one before, or any hub for that matter - i dont get to play with the big tools. Alas, that looks like $400+ dollars worth of machining to me.
