This will be my first disc brake install. I'm planning on using the XT BL-M756 levers; which hose type should I use? BH96 and BH62/63 both look like possibilities. Also, which tool will make the cleanest/squarest cuts on the hose? I currently have an older Shimano SIS cable cutter, but wouldn't mind buying a new tool if there's something more ideal.

Any other tips for a snazzy installation are appreciated.

You want an in-line fitting at the lever and a banjo at the caliper. Shimano used to use a banjo at both ends.

You can use either cable cutters or a utility knife to cut hoses. As new, sharp utility blade should work well enough. No need to buy a new tool to use once a year or less.

Good luck
