There are a couple cool things about the new Foes Fly frame that weren't mentioned. They really wanted to integrate a more continuous seat tube for greater seat height adjustability. So that is the reason for the major design change. Also, the old frame was a lot more costly to make, and time consuming to make. The price of the new frame is going to go down because of this. And, the frame is 2 pounds lighter. I'm stoked and can't wait to get one. They also introduced and new stock color. It's a really nice metallic silver. The Foes line looks good!!
Are you saying the new fly is 8ish pounds? Is the geometry the same? Same travel options? Does it use the same size shock or is the stroke longer?

The info I got is that the geometry and sizing are the same, the travel and adjustments are the same, and the frame weighs 2 pounds less than the '04. I'm not sure about the shock or stroke.

The travel settings have to be different. The older FLY could be 6,7, or 8. The 05 FLY only has two settings if you look closely at the pic. I really like my 02.5 but man that 05 is looking good plus 2 lbs lighter WOW.

Now, I just wonder if my Avalanche rear shock will work on the 05.... mmmmm

Yup, it looks like your right. I didn't ask Brent about that so I wasn't quite sure. I was just blown away by the drop in weight. I was also really stoked to see that even though the frame costs less to make, they didn't keep the price the same. The kept their margin the same and dropped the price. Hopefully that will help make it available to more people. The more adjustable seat height will also help with fit and versitility. If I can't race DH next year, I will definetely have a new Fly.

What is MSRP on the 05 FLY? Are there any other differences? rear hub width? tire clearance? headangle? etc?

All my price sheet stuff is at the shop so I'm not sure about the MSRP. We haven't sorted out all our crap from the show yet. When I find it I'll let you know. I believe tire clearence and rear hub width are the same. As far as headangle, I didn't ask brent about that specifically, but I did ask him if the geometry was the same and he said it was. So I would imagine that headangle would be included in that. He did say that because people like their old one's so much, they tried to retain as much of the original as possible in terms of fit and ride characteristics, while fixing it's couple problems.

What were the "couple problems" that they fixed besides cost?
Besides cost:
-weight
-the amount of time it took to make each frame
-and the lack of seat height adjustability

Cedric rides a pink bike because he CAN. Its that simple. Darren B. has a pink Big Hit. He rides a pink bike because he CAN, too. Simple really. :);)

When you're good you can ride any color of bike you want too. Cedric likes attention and the pink gives him even more than he already gets. I like it. I would never own a pink bike but its not that bad.

Pretty simple indeed. But i was thinking that, after i posted it. That he could ride every color he want. Out every color he can choose, he picks that one.

I really would pick another color, don;t know which one, but certainly not pink.

But i really do like the pink coloured stanchion protectors on that Dorado.

How about this one then:

Haven't you guys heard? Pink is the new black. That pink Banshee is some guy named Gaspy's bike. There's a picture of him at some Austrian freeride comp in the most recent Decline. He, too, has the skills to ride pink.

oh sweet...that it reassuring then! That is pretty much what I figured since Mavic has been telling my bike shop that they've been waiting the new rims to come out before sending me new ones..
I asked one of the Mavic guys about that and he said there is a stand alone rim for those with 150mm hubs etc. He didn't say if it was yellow or black or both...

are you saying there would be a different rim for 135mm vs 150mm hubs?

its not a Horst link anymore..they moved the pivot to the seat-stay for this year..

ya...need/want to know more about the new Mavic UST DH rims...I want my replacement ones - really want to give them another try!!

I spoke to Mavic while I was there.

New EX823 rim is the same weight as old rim!!! Different and supposedly stronger profile, narrwer by 2 or 3 mm, I can't remember (maybe they should change the name then?;)). Looks pertty hot.

They had an old EX823 rim on display, but I was assured by Dan Warchol and the boys that it was actually just an old display and a new stand alone rim is going to be available in addition to the wheelsets.

They also had an awesome new rim for riders on a budget, the XM325 (or EX maybe?). Looks to be a Rhyno Lite killer. Much cheaper and very very burly. Now I can talk kids into letting me build them up some mavic rims instead of having to go elsewhere with their limited budget.

Mavic had the hook up it seems this year!

but there isn't a specific model for wider hubs is there? I don't see why the width of the hub would matter?

Just measured rims, '05 Deemax rim is 1mm narrower (outside measure) than D3.1

badass!

I'm really glad they were able to chanegthe extrusion in such a great way, stronger, not too much narrower (1mm apparently) and same weight.

Should be cool.

I was worried they were going to make it heavier. I have had ZERO problems in two years on EX823 rims. Now when i build up my new bike I won't be sacraficing any weight. :)

They had F&R tubeless Minions!
they've been around for ages, its weird that the only place i've ever found with the full maxxis range is switzerland , everywhere else seems to get only bits of pieces from the full maxxis range.
