typically i'm excited about iB and look at as many pics as i can, but nothing has really jumped out at me this year, either.

i was told by someone close to Rob Roscop that SC was going to be releasing a new VPP frame, and have been excited about that since March-ish. nothing new from SC, though, except the HT.

maybe it because i'm finally happy with my bikes?
They had a Blur 4x on display at IB but maybe the bike you heard rumored was the one I saw riding one day here in SC. It looked like the new V10 but smaller with an SC fork and about 5" travel or so...

downsized V10...that'd be kinda cool. oh, here's what he sent me in May:

Just got off the phone with Rob over at Santa Cruz. He said that the new VPP will be a 6 1/2" travel, do-it-all bike. I remember you asking about it a while back and thought you might want the inside scoop. He said it's slated for release sometime next year. He was super excited about it and thinks it's going to be the best in the lineup for general purpose hard riding.

Looked like it to me, although I may just have a crappy memory. It's still based on a Nexus hub but comments that that isn't a real gearbox seem a little silly to me. The whole concept cracks me up, someone through a transmission into a rear hub so now it's not a real transmission. Uh, ok, whatever. Let's just call it an input shaft, driving a bunch of planetary gears to vary the gear reduction of the output shaft. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, it sounds sort of like a transmission, but it's not a real gearbox because they put it in a rear hub once.
I was going to post a reply as well, but I think you sumed it up perfectly.

Did anybody see any new Dh tires from Michelin .Like a 2.5 comp 32??????I mentioned that to them like 2 years ago, and they said they were working on something like that. And since I'm a name and all, they probably got right on it.

I didnt see any pictures of the tire you are talking about but ive got a feeling its their new xc tire that comes in a 1.9 or a 2.1 or something. Julien absalon actually ran this tire to his wins at the Olympics and the world championships. I also really want a 2.5 comp 32 but I doubt its coming out this year.

so that leaves marzocchi, avalanche, and hope (maybe white bros) to take care of yr suspension and braking needs.

so throw a set of mono6s on yr endless hardtail, and a marz66 on the front, and have fun.

wait, are shimano or SRAM overrated hype machines too? if so, good luck using the fred flintstone mode of propulsion.
I think he rides a wally special with a 1/2" travel fork, 25x1.80 tires, no name canti brakes. no name wheels, no name drivetrain.

I think a city with a motto of "What happens in vegas, stays in vegas" Is much more attractive than a city with 50 miles of paved bike lanes for granola eating 10 speed commuters.

I think he's talking about the old Comp 12 2.4" (looked like a mini 32).

Michy did have some badass looking brand new grey Dual Compound tires in brand new tread patterns and I think they were all 2.2".

What I'd really like to see would be some NEW stuff from Rohloff (Other than G-Boxx related stuff) Are they developing the internally geared hub any more or is all of their work focused towards Nicolai?

What I did enjoy seeing was this

So Frank runs out of ideas and decides to use DW's Empire design cause he hasn't produced it yet? LAME!!!!

Are there no ethics in this industry any more?

sure...I am guessing thats exactly what he did. Because he didnt post drawings up on the web or show prototpye pics on a website years ago means he stole a similar design? How do you know this wasnt something Frank had conceived long ago, before the Empire drawings were ever shown? Franks been doing this an awful long time I dont think he is the type to simply steal a design to pass off as his own.
To outright say he stole it is like saying the DW link is simply the same as the Karpiel design or the new Giant is ripping off those or they all ripped off Outland's original VPP design because all they all share somewhat similar design components.

Funnily enough, I don't recall seeing a Karp with a full-length seat tube...
I was just playing around man. Just a lot of talk about stolen this and borrowed that every year around the first part of October; bottom line is there are only so many ways to make a mountain bike that works well. And technically that white bike doesn't have a an actual full-length seat tube anyway :p

I don't think you know Frank as well as you think.

DW link is it's own animal. Karpiel, LOL

edit: even if it isn't a direct copy, as small as this industry is the least he could have done is let the person who had already presented this design to the public know what he was planning on doing. Look at the other FS designs Frank has come up with, don't you think this much imagination would be just a LITTLE stretch past his previous four bar bikes?

So DW did not patent anything about the design? For some reason I thought he had and that was why he even let pics out. Maybe that was just the DW-link design.

The Sinister looks really close to the Imperial, but as engineers on here are always always saying, a little bit can make a huge difference. For that matter, I'd say the new Giant suspension looks dead on the Sunday, though the lower link seems to have a differnt angle which probably makes a difference.
