saw this long ago. seems like you would continually end up with your chain being too tight
You seen this frame long ago or the style? Today was the first for me, curious if another company tried and the style failed.

I think if you planned the length out right you could get it exactly how tight/loose you want it when it's completely mounted at the top of the d.o.

Yea, even though you tighten the axle, doesn't mean the axle can't still move with say, the force of landing the bike countless times.
If I'm understanding the function of the d.o. correctly, it the wheel would be all the way up to the top of the d.o. With that countless landings would want to push the wheel up agains the top of the d.o., right? So the wheel would never shift or move. Again I might be waay in left field when picturing it.

That's assuming that you pick the absolute perfect combination of sprocket and driver to get you directly to the top of that drop out, with ideal chain tension. It looks to me as if the drop outs are semi diagonal.

^^^ I have what you would call a perfect sprocket/ driver combo. I didnt get it overnight, but through the various tries and once I got it I kept it.

Yea it's a semi vert dropout. So you can get the chain length so when it's almost out of the d.o. the chain is slightly loose. Once you get it to the top it'd be somewhat snug. I roll with my chain slightly loose to snug.

the cardinal frame has been out maybe a year, not sure if I saw it around last years interbike bike or not. there was talk of the rear drop out hanging up while grinding but i don't think it hangs low enough to worry. cardinal's first signature frame has regular drops if that says anything about how the team likes vertical ones haha.

You guy(s) say IF you choose a perfect gear ratio. I remember reading about this, the whole point of the design is to use those perfect ratios. 25-9, 23-8.

the perfect ratio is subject to personal opinion. I'm sure Burns's ratio is way diff than mine at 24-9.

You can get half links too, for those folks singulating their xc bike, that may help in this situation, but to be honest it's a kludge to do so. Also, you can get off centre BB shells that allow some tension to be taken up there. Seems a lot of specialist messing when horizontal seems the norm. - But I'm new to the dirt/jump world for sure!
