Fed up with breaking plastic SRAM derailleurs, I replaced the system with XTR. I gave my old stuff to a buddy including a broken 9.0SL which he figured he'd send to SRAM to see if they'd warrantee it. Hey, all they could do is say no. It was warranteed site unseen. They didn't want the broken one and sent him a new 9.0. But this one had an aluminum top knucle. Hmmmm. has SRAM finally figured out that plastic in some bike parts is prone to breaking easily???

I have never used SRAM derailleurs, but a friend of mine has and does. He has a couple of the XO and a 9.0SL. Both of them have the alluminum knuckle I beleive. He's had good luck with them for the most part. The design seems much more thought out than that of a Shimano anything and they're quite nice to look at. Maybe someday I'll try one. One problem that he has had, is bending at that very knuckle, but I guess a bend is better than a flat out break.

The other day I was thinking it would be really cool if Campy made some kind of chip to modify their Ergopower levers to pull as much brake cable as a V-brake lever. I've had some wonderful experiences with Campy, particularly the Veloce group, and such a modification would allow me to use Campy on a cross bike and actually have good braking performance.

i wouldn't recommend using v's on a cross bike. you lock out your wheel and slide like hell way before you ever reach the braking potential you'd get w/ canti's.
