Hilarie has an iPad which she uses mostly on trips; we pay Verizon for data. She's used to Windows, gets really frustrated trying to use eBay, email, or anything else for which she needs a password.

I'm thinking we should replace the iPad with a small laptop running Windows and a cellular modem. Any suggestions regarding light Windows laptops?

Dell XPS 13 for a traditional laptop. Might be the best small laptop out there now and it's cheaper than a lot of the competition.

I'd take a close look at the new Microsoft Surface 3 (the non-pro model). You get most of the benefits of that tablet form factor (size, weight, battery life), but it runs Windows and has a keyboard. You can bump up to the Pro model for a larger screen and more horsepower, but if she's already comfortable with an iPad it's probably unnecessary.

We wound up getting a Dell Inspiron and like it.
