All of them were taken the instant before the army guy snapped the neck of whatever he was caressing/comforting/covorting with.

one of a very good friend's friend of mine was recently shot in Iraq talking to his mom on the phone while trying to get the Iraqi civilians off the bunker where he was trying to get a satelite signal for his unit's phone. these are regular good ol' boys like us, they are god damned humans too. They are doing a job that you don't want to do, that doesn't give you the slightest right to say something like that.

Ok... most soldiers are good people. I don't think anyone would argue with that. Unfortunately, Some are not ... that's just the way it goes. I don't see the point of this thread.

have you ever had fought/had a close friend/family member that fought a real war and died in it? Did you know him/her/them well and how they fought on the battle field?

If you want to -fight- for your country, it's your choice/right.
But when your country started a war based on wrong information, speculations and lies, whos to blame when a friend/family member dies in that war:
- The Iraqi people
- The US government
And FYI: watch a NON-US news program, you will see hear things you won't hear on your news programs .and sometimes its really ugly.
I think it totally blows that those people are there and in that situation. Thats all I have to say.
tell me, would i have learned of the franco-iraqi corruption from watching deutsche welle or scola, or reading press releases from agence france presse? Where would i have read an in-depth account of the poorly run & thoroughly corrupt UN oil for food program?
i've been checking out a lot of al-jazeera, and i do agree there's a lot of bilge i won't find in-state. I'll see the "atrocities" of a couple naked iraqis in prison on al-jazeera, but i won't find pictures of the charred americans hanging from bridges as atrocities, but rather, the angry arab street protesting the occupation. I'll hear about an inflated figure of 10,000 iraqis killed since occupation (i wonder how many were killed aiming a rifle...), but i won't be reminded of 10,000 being killed every month and being dumped in mass graves for voicing opposition to the ba'athist regime.

The crap that happened in the jail is despicable by any standard. The troops responsible aren't representative of the U.S. military and should be charged like the criminals they are.
Remember, it was atitudes like these that caused so much crap for Vietnam Vets after the war. You don't like the war, fine, but don't you dare give the service men and women any crap about it. It's not their decision and they're simply trying to do what they can.

Your right some great things have been acomplished or achieved from war being won by the "good" but someone has to be the bad/stupid side too.
And in the case of bush i think he is a moron, he led an army of people into a war over lies (why the ignorant thing holds, because he said one thing to our soldiers and had other motives.)
i thank the army and the people in it for what they do...protect us...i just don't think thats what we are doing right now.

it's so easy to say that. It's not up to our soldiers to question abstract/big picture orders... like why we're there. It is easy for a soldier to decide whether or not they want to target civilians, but it's not always easy to know who the innocents are.
And you say ignorant like you and I are educated enough on the subject to make those decisions.

forgot about the franco-iraqi working relationship. Yeah, france and germany are pissed off at the US because they subsequently lost massive amounts of oil contracts with Iraq as they refused to aid in the war. do you think that they are just so morally right to criticize us? i mean, both of them have such good records in the dealing with the middle east and north africa and stuff, you know, pristine record all the way......
