Iron Horse: Broken hardware

My new 2004 Iron Horse SGS DH pro, after three rides, has decided to break the main pivot bolt where the chainstays mount to the frame (near bb). The set up consists of two collars w/ flat allens heads and a single stud that threads between the two. The stud is the piece that broke, or sheared. Has anyone else had this problem? does it seem just to ask (warranty) for replacement hardware to cure the problem? I am not sure, physically how that particular piece could have broken, It doesnt seem that the threaded piece between the two provides much in the way for torsional strength, it seems it would only provide tension between the two collars holding them in the bearings and the frame. :(

Mine broke in the same place too, so I e-mailed Bruce at Ironhorse, and he shipped a new one out on the day. :thumb:
Drop him an e-mail, and he'll take care of you.

We honestly had little to no problems with that part all of last season. We've used the same set-up since 01 on bikes and Norco has used the exact same hardware for ages. It just started cropping up on 04 bikes. We believe the issue to have been over tightening by the assembly factory. If you need a new part drop Bruce a line at ext 209 and we'll get one right out to you.

Todd and Weagle in a claymation deathmatch for CS supremacy. We would like to see this, confirm/deny?

yes, would be very good. although those marzocchi guys would have to be in it.

no way, Todd could use his fro as a weapon and weagle of course would have the mega decibel death laugh.
but then brian might whip out a crash replacement fork with a super friendly price tag on it and start smackin them with it. then suddenly out comes dw slinging e-13 bashguards like ninja throwing stars.

i would deffinatly suggest ironhorse before anyother company. emailed them with some questions about the 03 team frame and got a reply the same day. which is unheard of when you email people. so ironhorse you guys are awsome and i love the frame and cant wait to throw a leg over it.

i havnt broken my own but my buddy did on his bike and i gave him mine so he could race. Todd and Bruce sent me not 1 but 2, which is damn cool considering im not even the one that broke it! I just toss them in my toolbox whenever i go riding and hopefully wont have a problem.
I did notice it seems barley any of the threads on those bolts actually goes into the collar thing, could that be why their braking? I was contemplating going out and getting a longer bolt to put in there so theres more thread contact between the 2 collars.

I just put the new linkage and chainstay on mine, and I couldnt get the bolts through the pivot above the bottom bracket to catch for the life of me. They really dont catch by much thread at all. I ended up using a large vise grip to pull it all together enough to catch them. Other than that it went together pretty easy, and its much stiffer than it was.

Dont forget to loctite them as well. I rode today after putting the new rearend on and that bolt loosened up on me. Not having my giant vise grips on me, I couldnt get the bolt to catch again. Definitely needs to be longer.

I would also like to thank IH for great customer service. They kinda screwed something up for me, so in reperations they made it free. No one's perfect, but the difference in companies is how that is handled. IH has handled it great.
