...or would it pretty much just be nonsense to veto this. His recent breakthrough with NK and now helping out the less-fortunate though... wow. Didn't know he had it in him. Surprised he didn't try to "liberate" the mortgage defaultees using military force.

Bush signs housing bill to provide mortgage relief
By JENNIFER LOVEN – 3 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush on Wednesday signed a massive housing bill intended to provide mortgage relief for 400,000 struggling homeowners and stabilize financial markets.
Bush signed the bill without any fanfare or signing ceremony, affixing his signature to the measure he once threatened to veto, in the Oval Office in the early morning hours. He was surrounded by top administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Housing Secretary Steve Preston.

There was an article last week on MSN about this. Said something about how Paulson really didn't think it would work, but it was better than nothing. And they paraded Perino out saying that Bush wouldn't veto it even though people had doubts...and he really should veto it...

He changed his mind when he realized it was a handout to the finance industry which makes it okay.

providing a blank check for freddie and fannie at the discount window of the fed, is criminal

allowing that blank check to have an unstated available amount (25 billion to 800 billion), is criminal

increasing the potential max cap on our nations debt to over 10 trillion (1st time in history) for the likes of fannie and freddie, is criminal

e-sending all of our credit card transactions directly to the IRS without permission, is criminal

the fact that this bill can (possibly) only help about 400,000 sub-prime borrowers with outstanding credit when they have to refi... coupled with the fact that it's creation was really for fannie, freddie, and the IRS... leads me to say to the administration and anyone who was dumb enough to vote for them

you can't kiss my ass on 'dis side, and you can't kiss my ass on 'dat side... but you can kiss my ass right in the middle
