Crisis hits Afghan vote
Waheedullah Massoud and Sardar Ahmad
Posted Sat, 09 Oct 2004

Afghanistan's historic election was plunged into crisis on Saturday after 14 of the 18 candidates demanded voting be stopped because of irregularities, casting a pall over the enthusiasm of voters who turned out in force across the troubled country.

An aide to Yunus Qanooni, the main challenger to President Hamid Karzai, said the opposition candidate was demanding a suspension of the first Afghan exercise in democracy for decades to prevent further fraud.
....
Qanooni's aide meanwhile said the halt call had also been prompted by claims that while polling stations were open in areas noted for Karzai supporters, they had closed in areas popular with opposition supporters.
Woo Hoo. Even though only 10M out of 27M have registered to vote, even though most of the voting is going on in 'Liberated' zones, the US is still going the extra mile in making sure their puppet government doesn't lose. WooHoo. Freedom and Democracy the American Way.

War in Afghanistan: $20 billion
Holding premature and corrupt elections: $20M
'Friendly' governments in petrochemically-strategic states: Priceless.
