*Charitable contributions over $250 are supposed to include an acknowledgment letter from the charity in order for a deduction to be taken. Out of 49 charitable contributions made, three letters couldn't be found.
*Sebelius and her husband sold their home in 2006 and then took a mistaken deduction for mortgage interest.
*Insufficient documentation was found for some business expense deductions.
OMFG, get out the torches and pitchforks!!!! How dare they not keep the "thank you for your contribution" letter that charities send out?? :panic:

Agreed, it does sound some what trivial, buit for 7K it was a little more than trivial, but that is not the point. It is how come it seams all the nominees are suddenly finding tax issues ? and how come they Suddenly come forward when they are about to be nominated ? Do they know they are cheating on there taxes and relize that the scrutiny is going to be more harsh then a general IRS check ? is there a New procedure for cabinet nominations that takes a closer look at taxes ? Just seams very odd that so many of the nominees are having lingering tax issues

When you make a ton of money and have so many deductions and loopholes, it gets confusing?

I would not know about that unfortunately.

Because they audit themselves when they are coming up for nomination. It's part of the vetting process. When you go through an audit and you are wealthy enough to have a complex tax filing, some mistakes are boundf to emerge. Do YOU audit yourself every year? Why would they?
