Is it ok to torture our enemies for important information?

if so, like this admin says should be ok for the CIA, then why don't we torture those whom we suspect being intimately involved with leaking the name of a CIA agent and putting all those other agents who were involved with said leaked-agent in danger?

wow, that was a long question :D

I say it's not ok for anyone to torture unless you want it to be open to all. If we are going to say we don't like our guys tortured, but it's ok for the CIA, that's a load of crap.

That's like the insurgents saying they set up a special group so it's ok for them to bomb anyone anywhere as long as it's the special group. As a whole they feel it's a bad idea.

no.

I'm being dead serious. If you're pro-torture, then I'd think you'd be okay with torturing someone who's at the top of the suspect list for leaking such info.

I'm just challenging people's thinking. Like...

Which surprises me.

Frankly, I'm not for torturing your average POW, but if you leak a CIA agent's name, I'm not really sympathetic to you and you get what you deserve.

While we're on the subject:

Senator: Bush wrongheaded on torture ban

WASHINGTON -- A leading Republican senator said Sunday that the Bush administration is making ''a terrible mistake'' in opposing a congressional ban on torture and other inhuman treatment of prisoners in U.S. custody.

...(snip)...

Vice President Dick Cheney has lobbied Republican senators to allow an exemption for those held by the CIA if preventing an attack is at stake.

''I think the administration is making a terrible mistake in opposing John McCain's amendment on detainees and torture,'' Hagel (R-Neb.) said on ''This Week'' on ABC. ''Why in the world they're doing that, I don't know.''

McCain said he will push the issue with the White House ''as far as necessary.''
But, wait for it, wait for it...

US does not torture, Bush insists

US President George W Bush has defended his government's treatment of detainees after a media allegation that the CIA ran secret jails in eastern Europe.

"We do not torture," Mr Bush told reporters during a visit to Panama.

He said enemies were plotting to hurt the US and his government would pursue them, but would do so "under the law".
Bent as a nine bob note. Does Bush not actually realise that you can get American news outside of the US? It would certainly explain a few things...

What about if the CIA agent's husband already outted her and her identity was already well known to a large number of people?

I know this is being said a lot on your reliable right wing crap stations but it didn't happen nor was her identity well known.

Blown cover......"cover" coming from "covert".

Joe Wilson is being misquoted all over the place. Not to mention the sheer stupidity of her husband trying to ruin a career she's spent her entire life building up to.

It's interesting that the administration seems to think that since they are the "good guys", and they are "bringing freedom and democracy to the dark corners of the world", international law does not apply to them.

Have you ever heard of the word 'context'? You can start off by looking that up, then try a phrase - 'moral equivalency'. Then take a look at your consititution.

Aside from the moral issue(which is a biggie), there is an issue of the reliability of intelligence gained from torture. Information gained from torture simply isn't reliable. Simply put toture is simply useless as a means to extract information.

Gotta love FOX News. They are just so patriotic with all those American flags flying around and they are fair and balanced.
