To use a different size BB than what a frame is supposed to? Like, a 73mm BB instead of a 68? Will that rape my chainline, or can I ad hoc it?

that's how all xtr bb's have always worked and the current external bb's work. they are all 73's and if you happen to have a 68 you use the spacers according to the guidelines provided by the bb instructions

Weird. Cause the BB I pulled out of the frame and I saw it was a 68, looked at my BB, saw it was a 73, and said "****...the LBS guy ordered the wrong one...", but I wondered if I could make it work and I put it in and it seems okay...but now shifting on the front rings is all messed up. Need to play with FD limiter screws...
