Listened to a bit of the Ryan speech. Interesting in the fact that it seems to be the same spin that is easily debunked.

Is consistency in being loosey goosey with the facts in fact a winning strategy?

but why, though? Is there any more or at least any new strategy to unveil or will they just continue to repeat, repeat and repeat again. The latter seems to have been the strategy thus far. I am surprised, too that Mitt Romney doesn't seem to be a brilliant strategist. Thus far, he has been easily goaded by O'Bummer to play brinksmanship and has not done so well. Dude better read up on game theory ASAP.

Considering the republican electorate is 90% Fox news viewers 10% rich people who want tax breaks why are you surprised? The only angle they have is convincing people Obama didn't change anything, at least not in the positive sense. The margin in the last election wasn't big enough that they can't find enough morons who will believe them anyone. Who fact checks what they hear anyway (both left and right - real fact check, not heavily biased sources). They could as well promise to lower unemployment by sending workers to Mars and still a big % of GOP voters would have went for it.

I understand this, and maybe I'm making an assumption here because this strategy has its flaws and major ones at that. I was expecting something a bit 'higher ordered'. Maybe the Neanderthal method that they're currently employing will work...

"As a private equity pirate, Romney pays less than half the tax rate of most American executives – less, even, than teachers, firefighters, cops and nurses. Asked about the fact that he paid a tax rate of only 13.9 percent on income of $21.7 million in 2010, Romney responded testily that the massive windfall he enjoys from exploiting the tax code is "entirely legal and fair."

This is the kind of stuff that leaves me baffled. I mean, the man either has no filter or no 'other' awareness.

Surprised at the sheer repetition, don't think I have seen it at this level, especially in lieu of the army of fact checkers waiting with baited breath.

    Don't forget "angry".

There's "spinning facts" and then there's "feeling like it's opposite day". See: Saving Medicare, and Claiming that Obama wants to raise taxes on the middle class, while Mitt won't*.

*Obama only wants to eliminate the Bush tax cuts on those making $250k+, and wants to extend the payroll tax cut, which Romney actually wants to eliminate.

I like how the whole mantra is "My family came from nothing and my Dad and Grandfather worked 8 jobs a day, 26 hours a day and wouldn't eat just so we the children could eat."

Just funny how when you're being accused of being fed from the silver spoon you come out and talk about how hard it was for your family growing up. And it's the whole party. And even some of the Democrats for that matter. It's like a dick swinging contest of who had the least growing up to who has the most now.
And that's supposedly the only way to live and sustain a happy and prosperous life, to work all day and night. I guess we all are just a bunch of ants living to work, working to live.

Who the hell wants to work 18 hr days just to survive? If that's what we need to do to pay our bills then our society and economy suck ass.

    ^^^^^^^^"Editorial"

    Lulz.

90% of the plant was shuttered in December of '08 when they officially closed and stopped producing GM vehicles. ~100 employees stayed on a few months to finish trucks that were under contract for Isuzu. Also like the hypocritical "but Liberals contend that reducing growth is a cut!!" while utterly ignoring the fact that Conservatives usually try and claim otherwise.

i think ryan missed an opportunity to be clever to point out the plant closing was for the greater good, a-la bain capital restructuring in the late 90's & early 00's

trust me; that web *can* be woven

Thank you. This exact thing was discussed last night on NPR. And Investors.com accuses people of cherry picking. I've said it before, but this is becoming the new right wing conspiracy theory, that "fact checking" itself, or organizations/groups such as Snopes or politifact are "part of the left wing media". Just another part of the republican milieu of completely ignoring reality.

Just a little summary of how I understand things.

    Republicans helped pass economic recovery.
Republicans claim economic recovery was a huge mistake, specifically GM shouldn't have been bailed out and let die.
Republicans claim that GM bail out didn't work as it didn't save one plant that Obama said would stay open if economic recovery was passed.

I had to go looking for this, but it probably belongs in my earlier statement.
The republicans, and the Romney campaign in particular, really seem to have taken intellectual dishonesty to a whole new level this time around.

Another reason why the republicans give me a headache. Past two primaries the candidates with the arguably most moderate history have won and then moving towards the general election these two moderate candidates move to the right to excite their base, didn't the republican base just select the moderate candidates?
