A lot of people seem to call the 1" drop crown a flat crown - is there such a thing as a truly flat one with no drop? Can't find any pictures of one.

not made by Rockshox.

Even if there was one, the head tube would have to be really short so that the lowers would not bottom out on the lower crown.

What is the purpose? Is the crown hitting the frame?

There is no pupose at all other than I just looked at my bike and realised that if my headset stack was just 3mm less or so (and many headsets are) I could run a flat crown, if one existed.

I can see that in theory it would be a bit stronger, a bit lighter, a bit stiffer, etc.

Dunno if my headtube is particularly short, old-DHi, 110mm.

It's all of very little consequence, just curious, idly passing time, that's what forums are for, surely? :)

huh, yeah it should be marginally stiffer but I would guess most people wouldn't notice.

The reason why I asked if it was hitting the top tube was that is the reason most people want the flat crown. The 2005+ boxxer crowns have the pinch bolts located differently and have a lot more clearance.

I think there might have been a Romic flat crown at one point.
