Shut up and Ride
take a frying pan, throw it on med heat and fill 3/4 with water then toss in a hamburger or 2 and cook

a person I know always cooks their burgers this way

they say the burge comes out less fatty/greasy

I just buy 7% fat hamburger, but cooking in water may (or may not) pull fat the out but it is also going to rise to the top and your meat will still be cooking in it. I would think that would defeat the purpose of the water. Plus who wants a steamed burger?

Use a grill and that will allow the fat to fall away completely. Plus it will taste better.

Steamed cheeseburgers are actually pretty tasty, very moist but lacking that char flavor. You're talking about something closer to poaching. If the water is actually boiling I would think it would be a pretty dry and tasteless burger but I'm not sure.

If your pal wants low fat, tell him to check out chicken...:p
