I noticed today that my bikes all look beat to hell. I rode my 03 bighit DH one season and my hayes leavers are beat to hell my rims just look scratched up and its got dirt and mud covering it. My 04 Heckler the brakes need work, the derailler is owned, and the paint just looks like crap (SC Powdercoat sucks).

Is everyone elses stuff beat up or is it just me being in college not being able to work on my bikes and wash em all the time.

Oh yeah, it's beat! My HT's less than 6mo. old and I've replaced: wheelset, drivetrain, brakeset, BB, pedals, grips (twice), and saddle. The new parts are showing wear, too. :nopity:
The '96 Ground Control's still got dirt from it's last ride....in July.
Don't look at it as looking beat; it's got a patina of authenticity!

I hold the record for most beat bike of Southern California, and perhaps, the world.
Unless you're the proud re-owner of Sanjay's old Karpiel Disco, you can step off that record...

My DH bike is fairly beat (not cleaning it very well after a muddy Whistler trip didn't help much), but my XC hardtail is in excellent shape, probably because I haven't ridden it much (yet...).

lol.
i dont have that many bikes.
but my warp is beat to hell.
its brakes, r. derailer, and shifters dont work.
its wheel is so far out of tune, that it rubs on one side of the brake caliper,
then on the other side of the wheel, it rubs on the other side of the caliper.
o well.
its still fun to ride, but having the local bmxers tell me i need a new bike is kinda embarrassing. :dead:

I think my friends SGS is the most beat bike of the year

-toasted BB
-bent pedal spindles
-bent der. cage
-both brake levers are bent
-rip in front brake hose
-the boxxer has both legs of the lowers punctured and have JB weld and aluminum duct tape on it to keep the oil in
-front hub has play that wont go away even after new bearings
-flatspots on front and rear rims
-bent seat rails
-near bald tires front and rear
-blow compression circuit on the 5th

He got this year too, see what college can do to a bike :p , no worries though he's getting a Sunday next month

Cosmetic stantion scratches on my Monster-T-& Avid mechanicals are a few years old, but still kicking just hard to turn inner dial.
Mostly i replace parts alot Try to keep it fresh.
Although i absolutely will "NOT" cry about a scratch or two on my bike if i'm riding/shuttling with the guys-It's like a buzz-kill -- crybabies stay HOME.........

bent bars
busted front and rear hubs
folded in and cracked the side-wall of my front rim (trailpimp)
bent saddle rail
broken seatpost head
seized pivot bearings
after a couple weekends of riding I'm having my frame repainted because it looks like it has road rash

My '03 giant dh comp frame is just about done. Shock bushings are dead, bb has 1/4" lateral play, top tube is severly dented from my fork crown, rear end is pretty much hosed. All the parts on my bike are in great shape otherwise, and are going on my '05 race bike. I will be glad to get on something new, thats for sure!

The bike I raced for the Durango and Big Bear Nationals:
M1 frame (really good) with ruined shock bushings, lots of play, and the preload on the spring tightened down about an inch too much.
Boxxer, with humungoid scratches on both stanchions, including JB weld to plug the crack on the left stanchion. The left side fork lower had a "boxxer condom" to keep the gushing fork oil from contaminating the bent-levered, hose-punctured front brake.
Rear wheel missing at least three spokes, and with 7 cracks in rim at last count. Bolt on Deore hub permanently loose.
Chain guide/drivetrain that don't want to be pedaled due to bent derailure/hanger, and shifter missing several pieces.
Ahhhh, what a great ride. Fortunatly, a full time summer job later, a new fork, new wheels, new drivetrain, new spring, and new bushings deliver a non-ghetto, non-shopping cart-esque DH rig. 2005 watch out!
