So we now have a republican pres. (please no bashing, send all bush bashing to the Bush Hater Thread). Along with the republican pres. we have a republican congress. Humm. This could be great or terrible. Having like parties makes discions much easier. Decisions that will be beneficial will not be stalled up in the usual beurocratic red tape. Decisions that are bad will also not be held up in red tape. We are left with less checks and balances. This gives more power to the gov.
History has shown this to be advantageous during war and a desaterous afterwards. Before the advent of the representative body the ruler(person in power) ruled because he basically had the biggest loaded gun. Checks and balances is like taking the bullits out of the rulers gun. Our new situation, in a way, gives the ruler one bullit back. Checks and balances are there, but not to the level before. During a war this is good, armies can be grown to the needed size quickly and decisions can be made quickly. After war is the scary part. Does the ruler with his one bullit and larger army turn inward and predate upon his people? Or does the ruler scale back forces and turn to other product ventures?
