lenovo t430 that was horribly out-of-date, so they tried to cram every conceivable update into it (my theory, anyway). as a result, whenever i install updates & reboot, "installing updates, N% done", almost immediately followed by "failure configuring windows updates reverting changes..."

i repeat this process in case something got out of order & can be correctly applied, but alas, this "loop" is now my lot.

of course, one solution is to lookup each KB package from the MS download center, install each failed one, reboot after each install (only when prompted), and eventually it will be up to speed (46 packages are in the list; suspect 45 are just fine).

so it looks like i'll have to do this:

go to windows update -> update history -> sort by status (failed)
update dates are:
11/2
11/16
11/26

included in the list are a couple ISOs, so now i get to burn DVDs

yay.

solved:

click on 'important updates', and cull back the list of conflicting packages, in order of KB, rebooting only as prompted, f'rinstance:
<X> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739159)
<> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739160)
<> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739161)
<> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739162)
<> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739163)
<> Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2739164)

Sorry to say this, please don't update it because there may be some bugs in the update which will cause system crashes.
