Probably just needed a better/bigger wing on the rear for more downforce. The 2011 V6 mustang set an HP/mpg record so its reasonably aerodynamic - its 305 hp/280 ft-lbs 3459 lbs. They drove one at 44 mph around a track until it ran out - about 49 mpg - 777 miles on a tank of gas:
