Christie just threw his hat into the ring for '16.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), generally a harsh critic of President Obama, has nothing but praise for the White House response to Hurricane Sandy.

“The federal government’s response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the President, personally, he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area,” Christie, a top surrogate for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said on NBC’s “Today.”

He added, “The President has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA.”

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Christie was equally laudatory, saying “the President has been all over this and he deserves great credit.” Obama, he said, “told me to call him if I needed anything and he absolutely means it, and it’s been very good working with the President and his administration.”

And on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends,” asked if Romney would visit New Jersey, Christie replied, “I have a job to do. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics, than you don’t know me.”
Let's see, a Republican governor praising the actions of a Democratic president a week before the election during an event that could easily showcase Obama's leadership skills in a national emergency? Showing that accomplishing things means working with both Democrats and Republicans and not playing politics?

Yep, I'll say it here, Christie is now the front-runner for 2016.

Romney would privatize the relief effort and Christie wouldn't have to rely on the president for anything. He would have all the vouchers he needs.

It just keeps getting better and better.

Think Progress said:
However, Brown’s comments carry a special irony due to the role he played during the Hurricane Katrina debacle in 2005. As director of FEMA during the legendarily botched response, Brown, famously dubbed “Brownie” by President Bush, was in the center of criticism from both sides of the aisle that the Bush administration was too slow to respond. An internal review by the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector-General following the disaster concluded, “Much of the criticism is warranted.” Brown resigned from his position as director less than two weeks after Katrina hit.
The comparison of Brownie's response to Obama's is better than any political ad the President could run.

Edit: I agree with Dante about Christie positioning himself for 2016. While it is undoubtably a good move, it is sure to make frother heads explode.

God, looks like "Benghazi" has replaced "Fast and Furious" as the ultimate right-wing answer for everything. No discussion as to what went wrong with either, just "OMFG, Benghazi!!!!!"
The right wing obsession with Benghazi reminds me of my dog when she sees a squirrel. To her, it is the biggest fuggin deal evar. It drives her crazy that I don't understand the obviously earth shattering importance of the squirrel.
