just got back from dinner to find out about this fvcking horrible event. truly gutted; Jack was a phenomenal guitar player, and such a nice a guy as well. i feel fortunate to have met him a bunch of times, but am really sad that i won't hear him play ever again. i know that pretty much no one knows who i am talking about, but please check out his music if you like acoustic guitar playing (strong nods to Fahey et al). he will be sorely missed.

Was he horribly out of shape? Heart condition? A heart attack at 38 is pretty unusual.

yeah, i don't know if he had any sort of pre-existing condition. jack was a big guy and the lifestyle of a traveling musician isn't the healthiest (and he was on the road a lot), but still this came as a complete shock.
