My wife is looking to get a road bike; nothing fancy, just something good value that can be ridden for medium length rides (~25-50 miles). the local guy is a good shop and one we'd like to support, and he carries Jamis...the two models that she's considering are the Xenith and Endura, both offered in women-specific models (she's 5'7" though so maybe this isn't too critical).

the other brand is an italian one i'd not heard of called DeBernardi but it doesn't even look like i can find a website on them...it's hydro-formed aluminum w/ carbon stays and fork.

any thoughts/opinions are appreciated

I've never heard anything bad about Jamis, I do remember them sponsoring a womans road team if that matters at all. DeBernardi has been around for quite some time. small Italian company, low on the radar considering who else comes out of Italy. there is a shop in CT called Smart cycles that caries them also. I don't think you would go wrong with either mfg, guess pick the one that fits her right and get the best deal you can.
