I feel your pain. I had 7 weeks with the splint and no solid food this summer. The worst part is the pain medicine and the antibiotic amirite ? That stuff tasted horrible.

i had the same surgery when i was 18. and now, almost 10 years later, my bite is all screwed up. 7 years of braces plus an invasive jaw surgery and now i have no chin and jacked up teeth. i'm still pretty pissed about it. was it just your lower jaw? they cut my upper off of my face and angled it down as well as breaking my lower jaw and resetting it. i have these cool bumpe under the bridge of my nose from a metal bridge they made to keep my nose from drooping. if i ever get hit really hard there it'll probably show metal....i'll start walking like the terminator and freak people out :D

hope your surgery works out better than mine did

Wow, brings back memories...had the same deal back 15 years ago. I remember when they cut the bands (left the metal in there for a few days to make sure all was well). my jaw dropped open...I couldn't even tell LOL...no muscle control at all LOL. Mashing up french fries...UGGG

About four weeks into it I was cutting the front two bands off and shoving in chickin nuggs, french fries etc. But I had some serious issues with the pain meds. The morphine made me puke, the oxycodin made me puke, the valium made me puke, and all through a wired shut jaw. I stopped with pain medication the second week because I couldn't deal with the puke.

Did folks keep asking and asking what would happen if you threw up?

It was all anyone asked...that and how did I brush my teeth LOL. When they asked about the vomit, I'd just ask this..."say you eat no solids for six weeks, just drink and drink stuff through your teeth....what do you think comes up? Liquid....granted it's a bit like a sprinkler..."
