Damage a carbon frame beyond repair and you have nothing. Do the same to a Ti bike and you at least have several hundred bucks in scrap metal.
The carbon repairs we are seeing are pretty damn amazing. Check out a few of the threads on mtbr, if we could do that kind of shit in medicine we'd be sewing on fully functioning legs and arms.

Well if we were made of paper mache it would be a lot easier to repair us via paper mache.

Carbon is going to get cheaper. Complex shapes are layed up with automation for wing skins and stringers in aerospace now. The technology will trickle down to other consumer products. However the cost of entry will still be high, so only large high volume builders will be able to take advantage of it. Boutique hand layed frames will still exist, but the cost difference with the mass produced shit will be significant. I would guess that in the future you will have the option of a Model T, or a Bugatti, little in the middle.
