That is what I wear to work and I wouldn't have it any other way. Khaki's and button down shirts are pushing the limits of acceptable, so a shirt and tie is absolutely out of the question.
Anyway, as a fellow mech engineer, you should go with whatever job fits you best. I ended up quitting my first real job after 4 months to take a more interesting job that fit me better (the one I have now). My boss understood, no hard feelings, and I never looked back.
