I was in Costco today, and I saw a pretty much loaded HP 17 inch laptop for about $1100.

You cannot get a Macbook Pro at the same spec for any price. No Blu-ray. A Macbook Pro at comparable spec goes for about $2500-3000.

As much as I like OSX, the programs I use on a daily basis to make money are all cross platform. I'm also not an idiot, and I can run a Windows machine without getting a virus. Once you take into account that I can't get a matte screen from Apple anymore, and apparently things like firewire ports are for chumps, what's the point?

I'm so happy I went with Lightroom instead of Aperture.

I like to tax my machines, just to see if it can hold up. At work, I have a 1gb dual processor PC, and I notice after a week of leaving it up and running Reader/Excel/Outlook/Putty at the same time, my machine crawls.

Does this happen with Macs?

Sure. Caches fill up. Beachballs spin.

I had to nuke my account in mail.app the other week to get it to work again (I run my mail server on IMAP gmail, so I didn't lose anything besides time.)

Now, if you're a virus prone retard, a Mac is worth the extra coin, just to avoid having to do a complete wipe every month. If people ask me what to get, I'll still steer them to Apple so I don't have to work on their ****ing machine and find out what kind of sick porn they happen to like the best...

I switched a personal friend to Ubuntu for that problem. They've had no complaints so far. I'm surprised their 8 year old HP sh*tbox still works.

My ancient PC I manage at home with a paltry 512mb of ram screams compared to my high spec unit at work. Forced corporate bloatware downloads make my work PC suck. If we all had MACs here they would do the same thing.

Better late than never.

Prices adjusted down a bit since my rant too...still, I'd be taking a long hard look if I needed a new laptop at my options. A matte screen on the 13 inch would be perfect.

Nobody cared in January and nobody cares now. Buy whatever the hell you want.
