"The show that leads into me is puppets making crank phone calls!"

Stewart is right...I actually watch the Daily Show for insight. That's bad news.

Balls.
The man has balls.

Carson may be an asshole, but at least he tried to fight back. Begala took it up the ace with nary a whimper.

They're both pathetic, and it's a damn good thing Stewart had them broadcast this one live. "Things that need to be said publicly" - 101

Ive loved john stuart for years, but was usually content to see him on the daily show and Half Baked. After seeing this, which I saw the first time it aired on cnn since I watch crossfire on occasion, I really hope he moves onto more serious and respected forums where he can do some real commentary. What he had to say was perfect, it virtaully summarized my opinions on the state of politics in the media today. If that little C0cksucker Carlson had let him finish a sentence instead of interupting with meaningless gibberish constantly, I'm sure it would have been even better.

Being on a comedy show is the ultimate "I'm-rubber-and-you're-glue" for Jon Stewart. It totally shields him from criticism and allows him to say what he wants...and frankly, I'm glad he gets to say it. His points were all spot-on.

But does the American public get the media it deserves? After all, if shows such as crossfire pull in higher ratings with their partisan hacks than they would with a serious balanced ethos...

Man I could not debate with that little cocksucker on the right... he needs a little red light that tells him to shut the hell up so someone else can talk.

The little sh!t wouldnt come back with anything more than insults to JS's integrity because he has a comedy show. WTF?! JS was trying to bring forth a serious issue and the punk wouldnt take it seriously. Typical conservative asshole

A little more on Carlson (If I was droll like N8, I suppose I'd call him Fvcker Carlson after reading this...)

Well, thats about how I figured he would react... he's like bush... stay the course. I guess thats a popular conservative method these days? I feel like this a lot when I'm discussing things with conserv. people... its like, "Okay, we just discussed that, and facts prove your argument to be incorrect... why are you still pushing an argument that you know to be worthless?"

Anyway, that carlson fuhker irritates me. I know people who watch that famn show and get a lot of their political opinions from it... its pathetic.

How is that any different than people who listen to and formulate their opinions based on what they hear on NPR? Or CBS?

NPR and CBS have more than two talking heads punching at each other for half an hour. NPR, especially. CBS, not nearly as much as NPR, but at least the news is better than a pundit show.

I'd argue that the Daily Show requires you to be somewhat aware of current events, or you won't find it funny...

Yer right, NPR is usually just one talking head.......way better.

Stewart wasnt just talking about the two tools on Crossfire. He was talking about the media in general, all of them, regardless of network. They have ceased to report news and are now attempting to influence public opinion, to push their own agenda.

People who listen to NPR are better informed than FOX viewers.

I thought we dealt with that a year ago or so?

Sooooo... if indeed the facts prove your argument to be incorrect, WHY WOULD anyone be stupid enough to keep pushing the argument?

Sheez. I'm sorry I even ventured over here.

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
Its chicken and egg. Are people more partisan because of the media or is the media more partisan because of people?

It certainly has come to a point where it perpetuates itself. Each network if VERY aware of its audience makeup and is caters to it carefully. But also each network is also beginning to strike out to present a more balanced view to attract more viewers. I don't mean balanced in the form of one head presenting an accurate and fair view of subject. I mean balanced in the form of two heads presenting widely differing points of view on the same subject.

As DT pointed out, that is what Stewart was saying.

The middle of America, those with moderate views on most subjects are being marginalized at the expense of the radical left and right. To me the most embarrassing thing is when people somehow trot out Michael Moore and Pat Buchann as representative Americans.

I think they are otally different. On 1 hand you have a person who hears the news report and formulates their own opinion based on what they hear has happened. On the other hand you have a person that bases their political opinions on the arguments of heavily biased partisan slant machines.

The partisan system is a serious problem in this countries political system, I mean seriously... it weakens it, it blinds people from freely seeing their own opinions. Partisan shows like Crossfire are both feeding the problem and are a result of the problem.
