I need to get some brake fluid to bleed my juicy 7's. Having a hard time finding the DOT 5.1 that avid calls for. Will DOT 5 work in its place or will I have problems?

Thanks

big problems. dot 4 will work fine though. Try a motorcycle shop, I just picked up some 5.1 yesterday from a dirtbike shop. dot 5 does not get along with your brakes.

Dot 5 is something completely different than DOT 5.1... I use Motul RBF600. It's used for race cars and although is DOT 4, has a higher boiling point than most Fluids.

edit: You can get RBF600 at a dirtbike shop and probably somewhere like autozone.

Yeah DOT5 is silicone based, don't touch it.

DOT3 / 4 / 5.1 are all glycol-ether based and are all compatible. Motul do a DOT5.1 fluid, otherwise whatever DOT4 or Super DOT4 your local auto store sells will work just fine.

Dot 3, 4, and 5.1 are fluid. I believe Dot5 is a gel or some kind?

I could be wrong, but I thought that's what I looked up a while ago.
