The Performance shops I've shopped at seem to be more like Kmart as the employees don't really know what's going on or care to know.

Surround yourself with sharp people and you should be good.

Also, as a manager, pay very close attention to written communications with regard to spelling, capitalization, etc.

Oh yeah, unless it's a ride or otherwise work related, don't "hang out" with the employees or have sex with the "cute new girl", because it ALWAYS turns out for the worst.

I went to the performance shop in Berkeley last weekend, rows after rows of low end Ironhorse and assorted other low end catalog bikes. I asked the guy in the front if they had any Hayes rotors ad mounts, he said that they don't carry "high-end stuff" like Hayes.....

Sorry, perfomance bikes sucks big time in my book. I would rather go to Hank and Franks, where the techs know about servicing brakes and forks, not just about hear rate monitors and water bottle cages.

I doubt you can change the Wally-world image of your place by yourself but you can try. Good luck.

That employee just did a ton of damage to Performance, and lost a customer forever...

Make it better LB.

....for my promotion. i am now the operations manager at performance bikes store 53:busted:

Congrats on the promotion if that is what you wanted..... but Performance sucks. sorry.

I know from the inside. They don't care about their people at ALL, they would probably trade you in for a shifter cable. And then not know what to do with said cable.

Just make sure you keep your IPT's up, and your Name Capture, and you should be good to go. But I guess as ops manager, you just have to cut off those damn bar codes and scan em into the computer! Man how distro day sucks!

Just go where you need to go.

Performance is fine for what it is - cheap simple bikes and accessories. Why would you go there for a specific part?

Hank and Frank - well...I hope the kids working there are smarter and nicer these days. That place used to have some serious assholes working there.

Lovebunny, congrats. Send me an SE 29er for $100 and I'll give you credits and pos rep.

I saw it as I was driving by on San Pablo, I saw racks after racks after racks of bikes which made me curious if they would have some parts that I was looking for. I mistakenly thought they were the shop that Supergo merged with back in 2004. They did have a whole wall of heart-rate monitors and some very expensive bike light(Trinewts, etc) though. I figure if a "name brand" bike shop was there and has so many bikes, perhaps it may be a good place to drop by and look.

The problem was compounded by the fact that the cashier(yes, I mean cashier) out right told me they won't even order the rotor and adaptor for me to pick up there. Now that's how you run a successful business:lighten::plthumbsdown::clapping:

A lot of the bikes looked like they had disc brakes, but I guess it was too much to ask for them to order accessories for the brakes. They have 400 dollar bikes lights on display but are not willing to order a common disc rotor/adaptor? I don't consider 400 dollar bike lights cheap and simple accessories. And Hayes is hardly the "exclusive" brand it used to be back in 1999.

Hank and Franks in Oakland on college ave has some very good mechanics these days. They always seem to have time when I walk in, even if just for a cable or two and willing to chat for a bit before I go.

Just go where you need to go.

You are mistaken to think that is a mistake. Performance owns Supergo and Bike Nashbar. Supergo is now no longer, and Performance is handling all their warranty claims, service, and 100% guarantee

I think you can even use supergo gift cards at Performance

Congratulations. Keep working up that chain of command.

Hank and Frank is just ok. Sometimes I go, but only if the part I need can not be found elsewhere.

They did let me buy a seat post off one of their bikes for half price, that was nice. But every time I have gone since, they have acted like asses.

Performance is a good store for people who are just getting in to biking.

Pleasant Hill Cyclery ftw.

I think you should take over the company. Make millions making them millions. Become "the" Boss and give us all incredible discounts because we were there for you right from the start. Congrats!

well i work at the smallest store in san diego. we run it like a mom n pop shop. we strive for the best customer service as well. i know that i never say no to a customer without knowing for sure we cant get them the part and having a solution ready for them. that kid was plain wrong to say that to you and you should really let the store manager know. i cant speak for the rest of the stores but i can say fullhearted that we hardly have a customer walk out of our store unhappy.

Why is it when anyone comments on anything nice in their life, there are always people that come in and say something negative? Congrats on your job dude! Glad you got it. Now do what a good manager should. Sleep with the hot young thang employee in the back room and use company embezzeled funds to buy her lavish gifts, dinners, and hotel rooms with lots of massage oil. That way when you get caught and fired you'll be well on your way to becoming a politician in washington and an illustrious career of kickbacks, and hi paid stripper escorts. :brows:

Front Range, dude...
Congrats...pay no attention to the critics. Worry about your locus of control, and leave your store better than you found it.

FWIW, I like Performance for clothes and deals on soft goods. Dont buy alot of parts there, but mainly running an SS keeps my maintenance costs down...
