Actually, if you look at the linkage design, there isn't any real travel.

It's all just bolted and beamed and the shock is totally unconnected to any load...

Hell, it was just for a term paper, anyway...
yeah, uhh, I was joking.

Jesus, the mad professor and the mad chef know each other?

Anyway I love looking at that thing.

EDIT: If I squint, I can see a gearbox in there somewhere.

A) Yes, though not well - I sent him some of the bearings the rigid back end used as mounting hardware [he was supposed to write something on the frame like '...and Nobody helped!' but he's a Francophone, so I was just happy he didn't kick me in the 'nads...

and

B) there's a Gearboxx in there to adjust seat height.

Honestly that rear supension design is probably only 2-3 degrees from beig fully functional. It looks like it could be made to perform along the lines of the Mountain Cycle Shockwave.
:brow:

Are you serious?

The whole thing is fully functional. Zedro's been riding it for, what, a couple years now I think.

in da shed, mon, in da shed
That's cool. I always wanted to build my own bike but don't have a machine shop available anymore...plus now I don't have the time. It looks kinda old-school Turner DHR-ified and I like seeing the natural finish and welding.

Isn't that the new Sinister Passion?
Yeah, it's actually their new Urban MotherHucker Series. The whole back end is adjustable for different head tube angles and with the 236-point mounting turnbuckle assembly [you can see it at the bottom of the frame] you can fine tune the Effective Chainstay Length by the micrometer.

But where are the speedholes?!?!

Interestingly, the speedholes are in the Headtube [which is actually a Headbeam, like the rest of the frame - which reduces 'steering flop' considerably and allows the bike to track a straight line like a hot razorblade through a puddle of coco-butter] but since the Headbeam broke off while casing a flight of stairs in "Le Stade Olympique" - Montreal's Olympic Stadium - now an open-air skate park with extra potholes...

...well, you get the picture.
