All that time you spend praying to Jesus, shouldn't you be working? You lazy bum.
Hey come on now. He gets relevant information from that activity. Like who jesus would tax and who he would share/not share his resources with. Turns out, jesus is a very selective litte bugger. And that information might very well boost productivity.

Only if you feel worse about yourself when I do that.

My post was a wisecrack, but it does represent my honest belief. How can you champion, for example, the right for students to pray in school, and then patrionize those that are seeking to do something very VERY similar?

Between a rock and a hard place.
The point was to illustrate the absurdity of this:
"This petition was created and put online to gather the signatures of 1% of humanity (about 64 million) that will be needed to make this dream a reality. Imagine, an international holiday every October 9th for all people to reflect and celebrate together. Imagine, one by one, every country on Earth honoring John Lennon, a man who gave his life for spreading the message of peace and love."

With all that is going on in the world, natural disasters, wars, genocide infanticide, declining education etc this dude has chosen "John Lennon Day" as his cause?

I mean, c'mon try to do something that will actually do some good for someone. Get people to donate to Unicef, give blood, coach little league, vote. But "John Lennon Day"? Please.

He's choosing to spend day to remember someone who inspired him with a message of peace and love for all mankind, and the collective ability to change the world around you for the better. He thinks it might be inspirational for others to also join and spend some time being introspective about those concepts and what they, themselves, have done to contribute to humanity.

How do you spend your Christmas?

Well, if you want to look at it like that, we can just go one step farther and say that King didn't really "give" his life per se; it was taken from him without consent.

Whatever. I think this whole idea is, well, a bit stupid. Then again, looking at it objectively, I don't really do that much to help anyone besides myself.

You may think these kind of things are hopeless idealism but sometimes they catch on.

It's quite an interesting docco. He's a bit of a weirdo but he has made a difference.

MLK also got shot by some guy. Also, who's words do you think will be more remembered by more people. How many of Kings speeches do most people know the words to? How many Beatles or Lennon songs do people know the words to? And maybe instead of suggesting he do something more worthwhile like coaching little league (DT) maybe you should suggest that to the people who are doing nothing. There are a lot of causes to champion, choosing a lesser one doesn't invalidate the effort.

Different people are heroes to different people. Just because you can't or won't appreciate what Lennon said as much as this fellow can or does doesn't make his point or actions less valuable. John Lennon preached a message of peace, and he took a lot of flack over it. Especially from our government. He loved this counry and they tried to kick him out for doing what many patriotic Americans have done over the years... he spoke out against what he felt was wrong. And he tried to encourage people to be peaceful and love one another. That sounds pretty important to me.

DT, If you don't like a John Lennon Day, maybe we could have a George W Bush day to remind people what it was like to have a leader who has an IQ less than my cats?

Jesus was black, so he'd kick the sh1t outta John Lennon. Plus did you ever see John doing any exercise other than lifting a joint to his mouth?

No, but after living with Yoko, the trials of Job would look like childs play. Have you ever heard her sing? Milk curdles, flowers die, birds fall from the sky, stone cold dead.

And the Dogma role was perfect for her... No dialogue.

I think the fight between Lennon and Jesus would be a draw. They would just stand there forgiving each other.
