Currently my 2000 Z1 CR is at 110mm, and I can't decide whether I should upgrade it to 130mm, or just buy a new fork. Something along the lines of a newer Z1 or maybe a RS Pike (not too interested in SPV). I like the way my fork feels right now but want a bit more travel. Bike is a 2000 RM Reaper.

Is upgrading a 4 year old fork a waste of money?

Not a waste of money with that fork but there are stiffer (thicker stantions) zokes out there now. My 99 z1 was set for 5" and feels like a wet piece of newspaper compared to the newer ones. You're fork with increased travel will still be lighter though.

Depends on cost to how much money you have. I am personally buying a 2000 Z1 from my buddy dan for 150 but its in almost perfect condition. I know it will flex more then the new ones but the weight and fact it is 150 is nice since i already owe so much money for the bikes i keep breaking.
