hi i just was wondering....

today i got a bit puzzled by those tires, they look great and feel great with the sticky compount and all, sidewalls look tough, but check this out

i had to drag a dh bike with "kenda j.tomac signature series 2,7 dh stick-e" tires, up an animal path to a photo shoot, then a few minutes later (tires and tubes 100% new) i noticed the rear tire was flat, then the front lost pressure too.

this all happened while i was carrying the bike up a slope with thory bushes, but cmon, two punctures in 50 mteres and the bike never was loaded?

has anyone used these tires anywhere with thorns?

thats too weird... ive been runnin my blue grooves for a couple of months now... havent had any problems whats so ever.... but then again i dont ride through too many thorn bushes...

did you find the puncture mark? or is the thorn just a guess?

I've been riding some Blue Grooves (2.3 and 2.5) kevlar bead model set up tubeless for a while now without a problem and I can think of at least 2 rides that passed through some thorny territory. Maybe just some bad luck on your part.

I run single ply Nevegals and have had a lot of problems with flats. I was running XC superlight tubes so that made them more problematic, and since switching back to regular XC tube I've been ok. I think the soft sticky rubber and single ply runs more risk of picking up thorns, but I don't know why you're having problems with the DH casing.

I work at a bike shop, and I can assure you that tires are compatable with thorns.

ROFL! My friends running the nevegal/blue groove combo and he hasn't had any problems through a couple of thorny sections. Sounds like bad luck?

i don't run the exact same tire(i use the kenetic(xc bike and fr bike front) and kolossal(fr bike back)) and i have ad no problems at all with flats(sinple ply on the xc bike and the dh casing on the fr bike) i have ridden these tire for about 2 years(worn out some tires in the process). i would go as far to say that these tire are the best tires that i have ever used. the one thing i will say is that some other people that i ride with had to put about 3-5 psi more in their tire to stop pinch flating in some really ruff situations.

found the thorns, the fires were dh casing and those thorns are really agressive but i still think it was weird to puncture two dh tire / dh tube wheels by dragging and carrying the bike for 50 meters.

heres a pic of the offending cacti, a bike and a ski resort for a backdrop.

btw seems like late winter will be very good snow-wise down here, in case anyone is planning a trip.

So in the Andes you guys have what.....like 30 minute DH runs?

im not in the pic, im the guy taking the pictures, not the one in the corner though.

and yes that place is not more than a couple of minutes away from the course for a race im organizing, from the top of that mountain you see there all snowed down.

should make for a 30 minute non stop no uphill dh course, 2100m (6600ft) vert. youre all invited.

Man, if DH courses in the states were that long, I might actually race a little more often. We have a few places we could do courses that long, it's just that nobody does. That sounds freakin awesome. I wish I could come down there.
